Any guesses on who's design these carbon ones are based on? It doesn't look like any brand name foils I know of.
They're not charging that much more than the aluminum ones. I wonder if they actually deliver.

Like I said, to me they look a lot like Liftfoil who are also made in China so it could be it.
I ordered the first one, I'll let you know how it rides

This exchange irks me a bit. To me it seems you actually do not care if this is copied. That by ordering this you are creating a market for stolen designs. These aren't parts that someone took time out of their year to refine and test. These are parts that were purely and simply copied. It means you will never get a better foil unless they find another foil to copy, it means that the company who actually did the R&D doesn't get paid at all for their work.
If you know you can get a foil (slightly used) or new in aluminum for just about the same price (Real is selling one for $599 right now) why not get that? At least you are supporting the industry that you are a part of?

Preaching never works 100%, so the kite/hydrofoil industry better find some solution to the problem.
Having said that, Real $599 is indeed very good deal. Let me enumerate what you would have get there (and won't with aliexpress):
1. Case
2. Wing covers
3. A mast that has 4 times better torsion resistance.
BTW, there are attempts of ali vendors to sell kites as well. I don't know what they are thinking: the price $1500 a piece is insane, even at $500 I won't bite. Just for the reference Best kites were going for $300-400 and this is (or was) well established brand.

Sorry. If it is illegal to buy that dodgy shit, its my opinion that people should restrain from the temptation
If not i Think people should do whatever they feel like without having to be judged by people with higher moral standards

Yeah that is it tho. You have a right to choose whatever, but you do not have the right to not get criticized for making that choice. I appreciate the discussion tho.
Remember the choice of buying from copyists impacts everyone because you'll see less innovation. In small niche industries like foils it will have a huge impact. At the end of the day I do not disagree that it will be up to the brands to avoid getting copied, but that doesn't alleviate us from the responsibility of thinking through our choices.

Overall we are and will see a lot of copy’s across the industry and not just China.
Maybe it’s important that we spot the copy cats and not reward their lack of real input but reward the innovative companies that drive better design.
