Axis Ride aluminum foil and carbon board

Postby Kamikuza » Fri Aug 04, 2017 1:08 pm

Demo'd a prototype in NZ in February, finally got a production model in my sweaty mitts. No ride report yet though it looks the same to me, so should be a really good free ride foil.

Board is 100% carbon, 145x48, 28L and weighs 3.8kg without straps. No deck pad, but has a grippy coating on the deck.

Foil is all aluminum and G10 wings. 4kg. Mast is sealed, 3 bolts and a plate with collar. Wings are flat and there's a wave/heavy lifter wing finishing sea trials too. The wings recess onto the fuselage so it's nice and slick...

Bolts are Torx too, which is an obvious solution to crappy hex heads but why didn't I think of it sooner?

I can't get at the Axis website, keeps ending up at live2kite.com :D but here's some more info on the foil: http://www.live2kite.com/axis-aluminum- ... e4a85e5e4e

Forgot that the travel case with Tefgel, which is why I now know what it feels like (sticky)....!

Is there a vert fin under the tail?

Yes, 40mm IIRC. Standard TT bolt spacing, but separate bolts to the stab.

The wing and stab are recessed into the fuse too.

Been out on it twice so far. Hadn't spent more than 15 minutes on a foil since March, so was a bit twitchy for a while: Plummet's Regreession, major case of. Today was better...!

Almost perfect for me (waiting for the XL/wave wing for swell riding) with its speed range, lack of vices, and balance of stability vs responsiveness... Probably too dull and slow for the speed demons :D although the Alpine rider here said he thought it was pretty fast ;)

Is good, I'm happy. Better than both the LF and SS HG IMHO.

So all in all a Zeeko copy. Complete with the vertical stabilisers that Kami was convinced was a design flaw.

It is, but what can you do? :D the HG was way more locked into straight-lining and it has no vertical stab ;)

The only real similarity I see with the Zeeko is the wing mounting, but convergence is inevitable.

How many different tools do you need to assemble that one? What is provided?
