Yeah, I am with you on this one - I have tried one strut and strutless light kites many times, and compared the 12 and 15 ranges, and found no advantages whatsoever with a 15, only disadvantages

The 15 will very fast begin to feel too powered when not riding "normal", also slower and when riding halfwind toeside you will get overpowered and feel unable to turn it as fast as a 12 (eventhough they turn quite fast most of them)

For freeriding/freestyle hydrofoil that is...

If you are somewhat more than average weight, of course the 15 is the choice, otherwise (IMO) it does not really make sense, and havent really found I could start earlier.
Even if I could, the small tad is not worth the disadvantages.
For beginners approaching lighter winds, or if using really fast or small wings, the 15 will work too of course - but most riding these wings use foil kites, but all usually bigger wings in this windrange.

Where they really work, is for other boards than foilboards - here the 15, and for some even bigger, can excel i many situations yes and the raw power is needed here.

So if used not solely for hydrofoiling, a 15 m2 could make the best sense too.

Just my preferences - I know we all differ hugely on this one

If you're still after a 12m strutless, I'm selling my 12m Storm voyager 3, practically new condition. used it around 5 times before moving to clouds..

I would like to know if the Mono is easier to relaunch in very light winds than any of the strut less? I also think that a 12m is almost as good for light wind as a 15 or 17m. What makes the difference is how it stays in the air, how easy it stalls and how easy it is to relaunch.

In my strutless experience (trip 2014, 10m) the relauch is very good as long as you did not get a wave in the kite. So when you relaunce very quickly/and or do flatwater spots you are all right with strutless. You can reverse relaunch the trip by pulling two back lines. This makes my wonder if one or a couple of reinforced drainage holes very near the LE would help. 3 holes of a centimeter would drain it quickly and would not create too much of an aerodynamical disadvantage.

The idea of the holes seems good and easy to do oneselfI. I am thinking on relaunch with waves or chop at sea. I have never tried the reverse launch but a lot of the time my kite goes down by stalling and ends up with the leading edge on top.
By the time I try to flip it and with the waves; it is almost imposible to relaunch since the wind was marginal to begin with.
