I'm not concerned too much about fish as they just bounce off the foil

I've run into sharks 3 times now though, and they're big enough that it stops you dead and throws you off.... which is not exactly the place you want to be body dragging back to your board...

You might didn't know. Sharks are fish...
i disagree... there are fish, and then there are FISH

see the difference?

I've hit a huge manta ray with my surfboard I flew off the board spectators at the beach said the manta breached the surface and flew for many yards. I felt bad for the manta but he was fine and kept swimming around the area for a couple of hours my board on the other hand tore out 2 fin boxes.

unfortunately with the foil I've hit a big turtle (he seemed ok) lots of jelly fish and even a big squid :(

never hit anything riding the Zeeko Spitfire because it whistles so loud I think the fish run away. I did manage to get the spitfire hung up on a fishing line with a midsize shark still attached on the other end not sure who was more freaked out on that encounter 😮

So my buddy was foiling the other day and came to a dead stop. He checked his foil after the session and saw teeth marks on his fuselage. The picture isn’t great, but in real life you can clearly see bite marks, top and bottom, left and right. Based on the size of the marks he was probably a pretty small guy, but I still wouldn’t want to fall in right beside him.

Has anyone killed a fish with their foil, The picted up the fish, stuffed it into their wetsuit, Taken it home an eaten it?

Scaled and ready to cook
I have also run across about 10 odd baby hammerhead sharks and one bull shark. Foils are way too quiet.

5 weeks back whilst sailing in the deeper mid channel area between Flag beach and Lobos island (fuerteventura) two flying fish flew out just in front of me, this made me look down to see if anything was there, the water was crystal clear and deep blue apart from a 3 foot baby Hammerhead, it was only 6ft in front of me and about 4 ft under the surface, it was tracking along in nearly the same direction as me, i quickly looked around to see if it had its parents with it, none to be seen,
and then looked back at the baby and steered at a wider angle to avoid it, it made no move to avoid me and did not seem aware of me or not bothered.
I sailed over to my buddy who had just taken a tumble and loudly announced I had just seen a ##### shark!
you can guess his reaction.
I then felt a little guilty.

I've hit rays in Pamilico Sound... even the little ones are enough to wipe you out. Glad to be back on the Great Lakes though... nothing in there wants to eat me or sting me and you can drink the water (if you have to)

Good thing carbon and epoxy don't taste too good. This may have been a good learning experience for the shark. Don't eat hydrofoils.

So who is going to come up with the first "fish foil whistle" for a hydrofoil. Think a deer whistle for a car would work underwater - yeah, I know the answer is probably no.
