Has anyone gone totally hydrofoil?

When we put 9m2 kites on waveboards it's blowing 30 kn+.....we stay on our 17's often til 20 kn

Weird, I tend to use as small a kite as possible when riding waves on my strapless board. So 9m is from about 17kts till mid twenties, then 7m till high twenties, and 5.5 from 30 onwards.
With lots of overlap obviously.

Foiling so far is essentially for the sub 16kts. If I didn't have usable waves on my spot, I'd surely take it out in more conditions.

I sold my last twin tip board at least two years ago and don't miss it. I still have a wave board but I don't often get to real breaking waves so it doesn't get much use.
I am 95% hydrofoiling.

I'm in love with the foil right now. But flat water in 20+ knots I'm on the TT all day long!!!! Open ocean I'm on the foil, I just never realized the amount of chop hitting your legs at our local spot until I rode the foil. We are looking forward to doing some boosting sessions on the foil this winter in 25 knots though in the lagoon. Can't wait!

I'm gonna be 75% foil / 25% TT as I see it now.

Not that weird if you have comfortable properly adjusted and positioned straps..plus the proper waveboard to match our 17's...up to 20kn...lots of guys not that heavy 70-80kg do it all the time
It all about what you are used to ...many prefer riding waves....plus do big airs with loops and transitions...using larger size kites
To each his own...look at Toby...he loves his 18m2..the only kite he owns...he is used to it...and has no problem taking it up to 25kn of wind with full control

I am kiteboarding for over 16 years now.
Quit with TT's a few years ago.
Rode only my waveboard and skim board for a while...untill i tried the first time on a HF.

Have not rode any other boards since.

I am with Peter_Frank that I have not (yet) said my waveboard goodbye, and I told myself only to ride it when the circumstances are good for it...which did not happen here the past two years

Only problem I have is big shorebreaks sometimes and onshore winds.
The solution up till now is just drive 50km away for another spot with better conditions.

I love hydrofoil and almost exclusively ride it. But if there's outstanding wave conditions I'd still rather ride surfboard. I don't own a twintip anymore.

30 kn+ then we often stop, as 5 m2 is our smallest kites and too big for riding (for the average weight on a waveboard).
Yes you CAN ride, but overpowered when over 30 knots, thus no fun in the waves when you can not ride freely anymore but are restrained by the kite...

Bragnouff is spot on regarding how I think most choose their wavekites, as small as possible but sufficiently big so still easy to go upwind and power in turns and jumps.

Around 20 kn I and friends (I like to be okay powered on a waveboard) are riding 8 m2 kites, so riding a 17 m2 in these conditions sounds really odd ?

You write "we" Pullstrings, so apparently that is the way you ride at this location, and average weights
Could you send a link to some video of this ?
Would like to see how you manage to ride waves with such sizes in that much wind, it is very close to the double size of what I have seen other waveriders use in similar wind.

Meaning you use 9 m2 in over 30 knots, where we use 4.5 to 5 m2.
You still ride a 17 in 20 knots, where we max use 8-9 m2.
