good job. now plan on another year or so of falling and crashing harder than ever until you nail your flying transitions. it will seem impossible at first but if you try and crash often enough it will all come together
Sounds like fun, good thing I'm a masochist :smash: :smash: This reminds me of when as a windsurfer I started kiting as a "low wind" option. Haven't windsurfed in 15 yrs lol. Now I'm looking at foiling the same way, we'll see what happens. Has anyone gone totally hydrofoil? Stopped tt and surfboards?

pj sofine asked this question in another thread, and would put it up on its own thread just to share what we see:

Has anyone gone totally hydrofoil? Stopped tt and surfboards?

--------------------------------

Around here, the 10-12 who has gone with raceboards, has stopped everything else, TT and waveboards, and solely hydrofoiling.

I can count one hydrofoil freestyler/waverider here that only hydrofoils now and no other boards.

Most still ride on waveboards when good conditions, and some on TTs :thumb:

I ride waveboards when really good conditions, and hydrofoil in everything else, also when really windy

The ratio hydrofoil versus waveboard days is probably 5:1 and sometimes 10:1 because I want good conditions and wind for the latter (would never go out with a big kite like a 9 m2 on a waveboard), as otherwise way more fun on the hydrofoil especially in waves :naughty:

Since I've started foiling this season I would say yes I'm solely on the HF!

Haven't rode a TT in over a year and the surfboard hasn't found a day on the water yet so far. I'm not at the point of dumping the other boards, but certainly they are not getting used. :thumb:

The range and confidence of the HF has taken me to a level i've never been too before. I used to get skunked often not once so far on the HF absolutely addicted.

My only regret is not pulling the trigger on one earlier. The price scares most away, but kites are near the same price or more and this is like adding at least 1-2 kites to the mix as the range is so phenomenal, so if you look at that way they really make sense. I can just about cull the kite herd down to 1-3 tops. I'm actually thinking if i even need my 4 kite quiver, easily could drop to 2 kites an would be just fine.

There are roughly 15 kiters with hydrofoils at my spot, but none of us ride them if the wind is actually blowing >15 knots.

Would maybe be different if the conditions were different though, since when the wind starts blowing there are almost always breaking waves or big chop that would make foiling really inconvenient.

All I ride now. All conditions, all wind ranges. So much to learn. Have stopped carrying any other boards with me.

Short answer, yes. Just about everybody here who foils rides nothing but foils.

In reality, if conditions are too extreme to foil (massive shore break, dead onshore, too shallow) then people will ride surfboards or TT. That might be one in 20 sessions. I would also add perfect, larger surf on a surfboard. I am working towards trying out the foil on smaller, clean surf.

What is quite nice about that is the skills don't seem to deteriorate. You get on the TT or surfboard and boost something big with a kite loop and a clean landing, or slash a wave, and it is all fresh and fun again.

I went totally hydrofoil for 5 days straight once :jump:

The ratio hydrofoil versus waveboard days is probably 1:1 and sometimes 1:5 because we have good conditions and all would rather go out with a big kite 17m2 on a waveboard because it's way more fun

when we put 9m2 kites on waveboards it's blowing 30 kn+.....we stay on our 17's often til 20 kn

I'm pretty much 100% hydrofoil for the last year from 9 kn to 30 kn.

Only take out a wave board if waves are really good, too big, or if the water is too shallow.

Yes. I have not touched my other boards in more than two years.
