Has anyone gone totally hydrofoil?

100% foil, exept when opportunity in waves, then its 100% SB

For a start remove ALL fins from your TT except if you ALWAYS ride in chop!
Use the LEAST amount of fin on your Surf, directional.
Ride a DIY finless, rockerless, strapless on flat H2O!
I still have to say the BEST overall sessions I,we have had have been on ALL the above boards, KBHF included of course!!

Me. I've probably used my SB once in the last 20 sessions ?
I prefer foiling in the waves even - where is live it's usually 2-4 ft so hardly worth riding a SB anyways.

I know a guy local who did 2 years / year round / 250 times out / mastered all tacks...jibes...you name it strapless..he's the best we have ever seen
Now that the novelty had gone...and he got it out of his system to learn and master it....he barely goes out anymore with a kite...if any
All he does now is surf with his hydrofoil for the past 6 months because he needed a new challenge
So he is still on hydrofoil

You still ride a 17 in 20 knots, where we max use 8-9 m2.

Its' off topic of hydrofoil but you know the answer....our waveboards have footstraps...the wind is warm..we are used to large kites that are tuned to handle the top end when wind increases
We are not going to go in and change to a smaller kite if we were out in 10 knots and the wind keeps going up & up...if it gets close to 23 kn then yes we'll go in and self land but not before
We enjoy the wave riding and the wave jumping to the moon just as well.....yes some few here are strapless using 4,5 or 6 sqm less...when we are in 20kn on 17's...average weight
Look at Toby....18-25 knots is nothing for him w/18 sqm with TT 39 wide at 95 kg...he is familiar with his only kite...knows all about his limits...stays safe and has lots of fun

I ride hidrofoil around 90% of the times i go out, TT in 18+ knots epic conditions for some wakestyle/freestyle.

Yeah well, Toby is into his own thing when he needs maximum float and hangtime, therefore it makes sense for him to be on a mammoth of a kite. For waveriding however, you tend to want a super nimble kite, that you can put anywhere in the window and shut off the power at will. Which isn't really what a 17m in 20kts would allow.

I can't imagine giving up my twintips. Some spots have shallow water, and at other times there are weeds and wood debris. I can't imagine taking a hydrofoil into the Real Slick or a Planet of the Apes downwinder in Hatteras except with a very short trainer mast, and then what's the point? And some of the sloppy big waves I get on lake Erie may not be rideable with even the tallest mast. But then I am a beginner. Anyone have experience using a hydrofoil in wave conditions like this?:



I prefer to windsurf then, anyway. But I will be putting my hydrofoil on a windsurfer, too.

Yeah, that's why I stopped going to OBX even though I'm only a 1.5 hour drive away. There's more wind in the OBX, but I think 10-12 kts is perfect now. No need for shallow water or slicks to keep it flat in 10-12 kts.

I didn't like big sloppy waves on my old gear, but really enjoying it on my new gear:

The sonic 1 9m was always surging forward and back in strong gusty wind and chop, so was always sketchy. Sonic 2 9m behaves much nicer and gives me a lot more confidence in 20-30 kts.

Spotz2 was pretty flexy, so hard to stop wipeouts when going fast in big chop. New Delta hydrofoil is WAY stiffer and much more pitch stable.

Had sonic2 9m and new delta out the other day in 25-30 kts with 3-4 ft chop and had a blast. Never enjoyed those conditions before.

I do ride such conditions, many times actually.... Loads of wind and messy waves

These are really good conditions for a kitefoil, you can surf and carve around in these waves with a really small kite, and pretty easy too - perfect

I dont think a windfoil is any fun in these waves, as it is not nearly as maneuverable in such conditions...
