Hi Flag53, yes it is really deep, only 10 m out it gets deep after the sand, great.
Almost flat, and you can also go downwind to explore the entire Saldanha bay, HUGE.
But then you dont have any backup from the kiteschool, like you would otherwise, if you go out where we did (picture from a foiling and kite demo), just where Bree Street ends at Pearlys (or FLAGS close to Kite Lab), as wind is usually sideshore (and very clean)
It is summer in january so really warm 25 to 30 degrees, but water is not that warm, so you need a shorty or summersuit of some kind, still really comfortable temperatures, and not mosquitos or anything.
Very safe around that area, no shark attacks, and a wide beach to launch/land, toilet close, and lots of good dining/lunch/grocery spots for your family if not kiting
Sitting at Pearlys one is just next to, overlooking the spot
A friend of mine stayed there for a couple of weeks, foiling only - while we were on waveboards down in CT and spots closer to Cape Point.
Foiling down in CapeTown in front of the beaches is also an option, but then you have to be ready for conquering headhigh (clean) waves, sometimes bigger - and often really light wind as when wind picks up it gets too much for most, both wind and waves.
Not ideal IMO, have been down there often riding waveboards, perfect for these - but unless you WANT these big swells in light wind and that is your goal, it is not that good.
But wind is sideshore sometimes a tad off, which is not ideal either IMO, for riding waves on a hydrofoil, but that is personal preference I know.
