Put your name on it! Another lost KBHF!

Postby revhed » Mon Oct 09, 2017 12:35 pm

Another sad story as a guy lost his beloved KBHF but this time on an "etang" French for pond.
There was almost no way to loose it one would think, although the etang is HUGE!
He searched the shore line for 2 days but to no avail.
Had he had his name clearly marked on it maybe someone would have found it and called?
I have forgotten my bar 3 times.... because name clearly marked was called and returned!
No chance had it not!
All my material is marked, kites, bars, harness, ect... and most important KBHF, T bar also.
This can also help theft control!
I know of MANY lost KBHFs that have NO chance of EVER being returned because no contact information!
Use a dremel, a permant marker covered in clear finger nail polish, or what ever works.
Consider doing this before it is to late!

Agree 100% RH.
I put my e-mail address and 'REWARD FOR RETURN' on all my boards.
One of my kite buddies lost his KBHF on a 40 km lake last year in offshore winds. He searched for a couple of days and couldn't find it. Luckily a kiter who is a Marine police officer spotted it in a small cove stuck in the mud.
This year the same kiter lost another KBHF (still no name on it). The next day I went out with my brother in his boat and searched the shoreline for an hour and a resident had pulled it on the shore. He is so luckily but I said to him, "How many KBHF lives do you have left?". He now has his name on the KBHF and a waterproof LED light.
I lost a kite surfboard on the same lake a few years ago. I had my e-mail and reward for return written on the board. A few days later I got an e-mail saying your "wakeboard" has been found. It ended up on an island. The finder got a nice bottle of French wine.

North side shore wind ending on cliff, sun low as evening coming.
Only one sail board hydrofoiler and 1 KBHFer.
Kiter lost board in sun reflection and wind getting less so not finding board decided to go ashore about 500 m.
There was slight chop so as we climbed cliff to get better view to locate board we often thought we saw it but not.
As we were almost sure it would be pushed on to cliff we left after asking if owner wanted help but declined.
Next day come to learn that he did NOT find his beloved although not brightly painted KBHF.
His name was not marked on it! :o
He, we thought lost forever....
Thanks to his face book post and a boat about 50 Ks out he got it back, super lucky!
SO......
Consider super bright colors on board deck and rails, like hunter orange day glow excellent and, or signal yellow.
Also as mentioned name and number marked CLEARLY and protected with clear finger nail polish.
Kite Board Hydro Foil LEASH.
As simple as second one on back of harness or fixed to nose top side of board, velcro, being attached to underside a few cms from nose tip.
Who knows maybe you will also have a bad freak day and better to have been ready then sorry!

Cheap visibility enhancer: attach a bottle cap to your board. Screw in the bottle tightly before starting. Have pliers ready at the end, to unscrew the bottle.

Excellent. Two of them in diagonal above the fins can act as a GoJoe on a Twin Tip !
You can forget about the plier using SERRATED LOCK WASHERs: one before and one after the cap
The difficulty might be to source them in A4 (316L) Stainless Steel.

Not quite sure unpainted plastic bottle would help KBHF location when searching in water?
As most advanced Boards for foiling have a good amount of nose scoop, bright colors should be enough to see ok!
