I brought the 558/330/101 down to Playa del Carmen this weekend. Really love this set up in a bay. However, in open ocean in 3 foot surf/swells, wish I would have brought my 548/325 set up. The 558 set up is more impacted in the open ocean when jibing and riding in the surf. I can feel the currents and swells much more (read more crashes than the bay). I generally like the stiffer feel of the 558 for jumping and carving notwithstanding the effects of the swells and turbulence. Live and learn. But stoked that I have the options! Just need to bring everything next time.

Tex,
I'm surprised how much I have adapted to the conditions here in Cabarete. The chop/swell/current against the wind creates the most turbulent and confused water I ever kited in.
Then theres the overhead swell coming over the reef.
I think it takes a few sessions.

I tested SUP wings kiting lately.
Quite interesting.
They need their own fuselage though! But that fits the kite masts.

Hi Colin,

who told you that? ;)

Been riding both setups: 633/483 and 683/483
Both with the SUP fuselage (of course, as only this fits the frontwings) connected to the 101 (kite) mast.

Initially I preferred the 683, but as I found out after switching between both and also kite wings in between that was because it feels closer to the feeling I am used to. Only that my stance had to move forward quite a bit (15+cm).
While the 633 allows more of the same/similar stance/trim as the kite wings, which makes it easier to use on the same board. And the 633 has more different characteristics to add to what there already is with the kite wings. It is way thicker than the 683.
So 633 is what I ordered for customers that want a super big wing for kiting.
It can go super slow with very little kite power, but I also rode it at 40km/h.
It stays comfortable pitch stable all the way.
Used it with 5m Hyperlink in strong wings, 12m Hyperlink UL in medium to light conditions, then 7m Hyperlink the same day and 19m R1 on a very light day.
Two sessions that had small wind waves too, feels amazing to get the drive of the 'wave' while trying to just keep the kite flying. Can not wait to ride some better wave conditions with it.
Learning to foil could be a walk in the park with it. I will give it a go with somebody new to foiling as soon as the water is not close to freezing anymore...

Cheers,
Frank

Great to see its a positive review on the 633, just to clarify, you say you used the same stabiliser the 483 on both set ups and its works very well on the smaller 633(just checking as the photos show them swapped over) this is certainly a set up I need to try,
Thanks Frank.

S483 is the only stabilizer there is for both 633 and 683 (as for the windsurf frontwings too, which need a specific fuselage again though, which does not fit the kite masts).
I consider the 633 the bigger wing than the 683 :)

Frank.
Can you clear up the confusion that became apparent to me and many others when we were talking about wing size recently and just now after you said you consider the 633 to be larger than the 683,
For example the 325 stabilizer measures exactly 325 mm tip to tip, but the 550 wing is nowhere near 550 mm, I bet very few foilers understand how the numbers relate to the shape ,length, thickness. Me included🤔
(I found out you had been out on the big wings through the UK network of Moses followers, big wings are a big subject in certain parts)

Frank,

Curious to know what board you are using in the photos? Looks like a T60 with tracks...

Pretty much spot on 550mm wing span:

Anyways, you could also consider it as names, but for sure 'influenced' by wing spans.
There are many ways how to rate the 'size' of a wing, the one most would agree on is surface area. This is bigger on the 633 than the 683.
Also the 633 has a way thicker profile, this alone makes it feel bigger.
Makes sense?

Frank

It is a 120x42cm custom board.
