"The beauty of these wings are, that even when too much kite, they are slower so they dont get out of control like smaller wings do"

Spot on, i use the onda to pratice in high wind conditions where the 637 gets dangerous to try new stuff.

I can not follow this idea... it is not like this for me.
Both, 633 and 637 can be ridden overpowered, but when really on the edge I prefer the 637 for sure.
I guess as so often, it is personal preference and experience !?

Anyways, great wings :)

Cheers,

i can see what your saying Frank, and it's the aim for me as well,
But I am not quite there yet,
yesterday I was not in great control on my 637 race wing, the water was choppy with 3-4 ft confused waves all over, wind was gusty with hard pushes at times, I loved the speed and smoothness of the 637, going into turns was interesting but a little scary as my speed made focusing on the swells difficult, and looking round into the turns was again heart stopping at times as bigger swells were picking me up and adding more speed, I just needed to slow things down a little in the wavy gusty conditions,
back to shore and changed to the 633, same mast position, same kite, but instant control,
and that's part of my problem, the 633 is so dam easy to use and enjoy, it has stopped me practicing on the race wing, which I need to do to be able to really enjoy it in challenging conditions,
but I have a plan.
I am off to lake Como for 2 weeks in a few days, no waves, so the race wing will be the wing of choice for 2 weeks,
practice makes perfect as they say, :-?
and chasing down windsurfers will be great fun, zoom zoom

High wind conditions do not mean ride overpowered for me. Means i have to use a kite size that im not very used and also that the sea is a rollercoaster :)

Want to pick everyone's brain - with a choice of masts 61cm/71cm/91cm which one you'd ride in (occasionally) shallow water?
Even if you have 71cm but wish for 61cm, or you have 71cm but you wish you had 91cm - what mast length you'd consider ideal where water is chest to hips deep?

Anything less than 91 - means you cant crank it /race position/. Even on glass water. 71 - is very good for surfing - upright position riding.
61 - is imo pointless

Just wanted to say thanks to all that replied. This is a great thread and helpful crowd!

Ended up buying a used T40 with Vorace 97cm mast with the 2017 550/325 combo to learn on. Also got the full 2016 race (HP580/345) wing & stab to play with later on... Will start on that and then possibly complement with a 633 or 590, plus a pocket board.

Thanks for the guidance!

Just about to get my first foil, local dealer sells Moses so that is what it looks like it will be. A lot of windsurfing experience and kiting since 2004, 86kg.

Planining on getting the 590 Fluente Easy setup, but as always when I get beginner-level-stuff, concerned of out-growing it quickly.

I kite fast and love high-speed carving and boosting. Should i go for a 550 instead perhaps, and opt for a longer mast?

Also on the board selection. Have seen and heard a lot of love on the pocket boards and the feeling of flying. The T38 looks really nice and sports the mast tracks as well. Is it like a really bad idea to try learn on it?... I have a lot of kiting experience so I am thinking I will manage it somehow and then be happy because that is what I want to ride... But un-sure if the learning will be to hard.

On the board issue, for you that have seen them. The T38 seems to come with inserts, the T60 Sport is said on the web-shop to have inserts as well. Nothing mentioned on the T60 Carbon or Glass, but screws sold for straps are all self-threading as far as I can tell. Do you know which boards have inserts and which do not?

Thanks!
Not sure of your question on the inserts....do you mean threaded inserts vs plugs that use normal self tapping screws? My T40 and T60 all had self threading screws and drilled plugs. No issue. T38 has threaded 6mm inserts instead.

With respect to the learning and your interests.....if you like speed and high performance my opinion is that you will end up wanting at least a 101 mast. You won't have any easier time with the 91 vs 101 learning so go longer. The 590 is a nice free ride wing but not one that anyone I ride with has settled on as a fav after becoming proficient. Personally I like a 633 low wind and wave option on one end, and the 637 race on the other. I am not a fan of the 550, but I do very much like the 558. IF you were going to have only one wing, 558 would be it but it is not going to be easy to learn on. I did but it was a harder slog.

I think with a friendly wing like the 590 or 633 the t38 board would be fine to learn on. The 590 would do you for learning and a year of getting comfortable....then you can just change wings to meet your interests. You will already have a long mast so it just becomes a question of wing preference. The tracks on the board are key if you think you will be swapping wing selections. Moving footstraps sucks.

Happy to talk on the phone if you want.

Do you ever wish there was a 81cm? To me it seems it would be a good pair to my 105cm

I don't ride moses foils (yet) but I do have 3 masts, I have a 600mm, 762mm and 940mm. In chest to waist deep water I would choose the 600mm, I was just in this depth of water recently and wished I had swapped out my 762mm for my 600mm since it was difficult to get started and often would hit bottom during surface tacks.

I found that 91 is optimal unless in shallow water- like Hatteras sound. There the 71 was spot on.

The trade off is less upwind efficiency and less room for sitting maneuvering.

There was a very direct feeling of me to the foil with the shorter mast making carving a true joy. I haven’t gone back to shorter 71 in a while (with the 633 Onda) but looking forward to it.

I got a 100 cm and a short 83 cm mast (and one in between) grigorib.

It is a good combo indeed, as the short one can be used in marginal onshore winds.
A 75 would also be fine here, it is just in this region these are usable in such conditions - being possible to get up and out.

And 80 cm is still okay when the water is flat as in marginal winds - not good no but still okay.

For my wavewings or the big surf wing, I've found the 83 useless, too short IMO if even the smallest waves - but here I use something around 90, and the 100 in more wind and waves.

We are all very different in this respect it seems

It does not answer your question about waist to chest deep water all over as this is a very different scenario, we dont have anywhere here.

But it sounds like an 80 cm would fit you as a complement to your normal 105, as it wont be so short it cannot be used for much else than just getting up/out - but still great fun :naughty:

Let's hope there'll be 81cm mast in 2019 I guess :)
