Yesterday morning the wind here on Flag beach was very low, under 5knts, so low large foil kites of the race type would not stay overhead and had to kept on the move, there is a group of 4 foil board race guys here testing out flysurfer race kites and other foil kites that have no markings at all but look around 19mtr, the guys had a hard time getting out in the cross on breeze as the kite lines were going slack as each little wave would push them a little back. They had to swim hard as the kite would not pull them out, at times thier kites would fold and drop into the water, so this made really good watching.
they had to get far out to get going as they had to aim straight downwind and then pump thier boards up an down to get up on thier wings, but once up it was amazing how fast they went, it just shocked me to see the speed these guys were going, they of course had to turn at full speed to keep the flow going , with one guy throwing in aeriel rotations to turn around and land at speed with a kite loop, they were very skilled and professional.
The only problem one guy had is when he crashed, he had to keep the kite moving to stop it folding which took him away from his board, this made a few others stand up on the beach as it looked like he would not get back to his board, he did, and went from zero to mega fast instantly.
It will be good to see how these guys preform next week in the 35 knts of wind that are forecast.
Thier race boards, masts and wings are not Moses but look like Levitaz as I recognise the high quality polished metal fixings, the masts have been matted down removing any logos.
There is a massive skill gap between these guys and the recreational user, this you don't appreciate by watching videos, you need to see it for real as only then
can you understand the difference.
