after many falls and some injuries I trained to instinctively cover my face and ear with my lead elbow when falling (on any board) it's not fool proof (nothing is) but if you do it right it has the added benefit of breaking the surface tension of the water and even preventing water from shooting up your nose ... you can also do this when wearing a normal water sports helmet to protect your nose and chin.
sure you can still hurt your elbow or boats but if you're really worried about that it's much easier to wear an elbow pad than a full face helmet

In this video showing Richard Branson and Barack Obama kitesurfing, Branson is wearing a helmet with something protecting his face.

Anybody know what make this helmet is?

Might well be a white water kayak helmet.

I tried a couple on but very hard to find one that fits. Ended up going with the ice hockey helmet which is also water proof light weight and even floats. You can pick second hand ones up on ebay for next to nothing.

Look, if you really need a full face helmet, then you can just as well rock something epic!

I tried the half visor on Gath helmet, was a pain in the ass because it got steamed up, covered in water drops. Last week a buddy took a board tip to the bridge of his nose....nasty cut.
My opinion is that its inherently dangerous, you can limit risks through good decisions but hey, its never going to be knitting safe.

Spit (phlegm) and/or shaving cream stops fogging.

Easy - Ozone Nutshell paragliding helmet with optional chinguard. Pretty much exactly the answer for your issue I would have thought?
