How often does the board just go foiling away from you on its own? It happened to me just a bit the other day.

I have seen a video where a guy was going to do a downwinder starting at cliffs, and had his GF toss the board out. The board started foiling on its own once it hit the water, caught a wave, and kept going until it hit the rocks.
How often does this happen? Anyone have any interesting stories to share?

Yep, done that a few time. Most entertaining was: bailed and the kite pulled me forward, I looked back to see the board foiling straight toward me 
it bore off downwind at the last moment and settled just where I could grab it...
Then there are the times I mess up the footwork and the board pogos out of the water. Good times!

My strategy foiling when things feel like they're going wrong beyond the point of no return, is GO WITH IT!
Often you will know, a half second or second beforehand, it isn't going well, the foil is going to breach, the jibe is going wrong or whatever.
For example, if the board starts to go left when you need it to go right, your last input should be to try to make it carve HARD left and throw yourself the other way. Usually works
But sometimes, it seems like the foil just wants to teach you a lesson.
