Going even bigger foil kite, what size?

Postby Pedro Marcos » Tue Nov 21, 2017 10:30 am

Hello everyone,

So ive about 15 sessions on my Ozone UL v2 15m, and after i tested a R1V2 i decided that i could go even bigger in size for lightwind madness with great performance, there is plenty of r1v2 used on the market so now the question is: the 17m or the 19m ? Im about 80kg, have anyone tested this two kites?

Thanks

I would get a 15m R1V2. It will be a lot higher performance than your UL.

I may have misunderstood you though.

Suggest the 19, you need bigger increments between kite sizes in light winds to feel the difference.

19. It is pointless to compromise at very low end

With the same weight I use a 18m diablo which is for sale!
You also can test a 18m Sonic2...
I think the 21m SonicRACE or Speed5 are too bin...

Everytime I and my friends have tried back to back same model foil kites we have chosen 15m over 18m for free riding / twin tip (speed3, speed4, sonic1 and sonic2). 15 being more agile is easier to fly on ultra low wind practically giving same low end for 70-110kg riders.

For 80kg if you seek for extreme low end, you need surface ... so 19m (foil or twintype) ;
For the last half knots, be prepared to add line extensions for waterstart even if it is not very coherent with a race foil kite.

18m is more powerful than 15m.
You can get same lowend with 15m but to reach this, You have to move it a lot.

Agree 100 % with this :thumb:

BUT, this is because I have it the same way, loving freeride fun and agility more than anything else....

I think that you Pedro, just a guess on your "character" from your postings, should choose the 19 m2, as you like to go fast when too light for "freestyle" as such.
And save the freestyle/moves fun for a bit more wind.

In short: The bigger will have a marginally better marginal end, indeed, so choose the 19 as this is what you seek now it seems Pedro

For some of us, we will drop the fraction of a knot better lowend (and a LOT less up/downwind performance of course) to get more agility instead :naughty:

I would not be in doubt you should go big with your talent and power, and you seek the lowest end possible I think :D

8) Peter
