I havent found a graceful way to stop foiling when going ashore, but would just wake this quite short thread up again, instead of appending on the new one :D

Yesterday, coming in over 1 feet depth over the sandbanks, and towards shore, ride all the way up high, and then lean back with wing up high, and either fall on my back, or jump off.

The best way, is if you fall all the way down on your back (the LEAST graceful), you have way more control, and can avoid having the wingtip touch the bottom, as you can (even strapless) keep the wing out of the water at the last part

This is how I did yesterday. In the end, of course...

I usually ride with the board on the water and take my feet out of the straps (if I have straps on the board) and cruise in very slowly with my kite high until the wing bumps into the sandy bottom. If I rode somewhere that had rocks or I had a carbon foil, I'd just hop off in deeper water and body drag in with the board on its side.

I usually only foil when the wind is marginal, so I always try to get as close to the beach as possible before hopping off because the kite may fall out of the sky, and the only thing worse than a damaged foil is rolling up a wet, sandy kite.

For my money, damaging a foil is way worse than rolling up a wet, sandy kite.

I like to ride in towards shore toe side. I keep the kite near 12 and go as slow as I can. Just before I drop off the foil. I jump to the side and put my front arm out to grab the foilboard as it rises. I can then body drag through the shore break or walk on the bottom with board tucked under my front arm.
