Definitely worth getting one, loads of videos on Youtube to watch for training ideas, Squats for leg power seem to be more effective when done on a balance board.

Go to your local hardware store buy some PVC pipe and a suitable scrap of wood.
Self stick grip tabe from ebay at next to nothing for board and pipe.
Experiment with different diameters, bigger being more sensitive and much less boring.
Or, for REAL balance training,
also VERY cheap!

I have a number of Balance boards. I made my own Goof board and Dirt Sun.
I use them with different size PVC pipes and Foam rollers.
Also get a BoSu ball which you can use with the Goof board.
I am currently working on moving/balancing apparatus with a kite bar to hold onto to practice air tacks and gybes (will post when I have it figured out)
All these pieces of equipment help Muscle memory and strength/endurance and are a definite benefit when KBHing.

I think riding a longboard skateboard would be more helpful. I had never ridden any type of board much before kiting. I spent my first winter longboarding and landboard kiting and in the spring I noticed a big difference as I started foiling.

Skateboard and longboard require no significant for/aft balance. The balance or indo board is a great tool that introduces the exact aspect/ sensitivity key to foiling. Onewheel is nice too.
PVC with a layer of duct tape on it to avoid slippage and damaging floors. kateboard/longboard deck or just a piece of wood work great and are a hell of a lot cheaper than those commercial versions. They are not worth the money. Once you learn to foil you won't use it. Put the money toward a better foil.
Cheapest option: 2L coke bottle filled and capped to remove all air, duct tape, wood board.
