I called them and asked. They said the numbers represent cm2 with one zero dropped, so 2800 cm2. When you see one in person its huge.

Called who ?

I find it strange that an American company would resort to using the metric scale ?

And that must be the surface area of the top and bottom of the wing ?

That is what one could think at first indeed BWD.

But no, I am pretty sure it IS 2000 and 2800 cm2, looking (calculating) at the wings and outline, compared to the 31.5 and 42 inch spans :D

As the GoFoil "Kai 120" and "Nalu 90" is 1200 and 900 cm2 (and would never be as small as 774 and 581 cm2 if it was square inch)

So it IS really 2000 and 2800 cm2 most likely, or at least what they aim for, incredible.

Must say the downwinder on the huge wing on a SUP looks really fun :thumb:

Useless with a kite IMO, but on a SUP when not turning much, amazing !

Some americans use metric measures and tools, just like Naish uses a metric allen key for their fins (where others like Future fins and their allen keys are imperial).

Those numbers don't agree with my personal calcs.
I have a gofoil kai, it's 62 x 23cm.
With the wing shape as it is, I'd estimate projected area to be a little less than 62 x 23 x π / 4, so probably around 1000 - 1050cm2, definitely well less than 1200.
I don't know how to measure it accurately.
So the 120, 160 etc don't make sense except maybe relative to each other.

Agree, the numbers seem to be too high somehow ?

Taking the video wing outlines, combined with span measured very accurately and measuring the approximate area, I get the 200 to be in the neighbourhood of 1800-1850 cm2 and the 280 to be around 2300-2400 cm2 even when curved so adding a percentage.

But it is not square inch either, as they are 645 % more, so seems like a miscalculation yes, somewhat off the nominal value.

About 10-20 % off, both the 120 and 200 and 280 is my estimate - still not that far off, but I would not be proud of the measuring.....
