Jumping=new love of my life!

Postby salvino » Sun Jul 01, 2018 3:31 pm

I’m 3rd season into foiling, getting 50% tacks etc and always strapless, never rode straps.

Yesterday tried straps and first time on Moses 550 (have been on 633), 71cm mast with 12m airush ultra in 10-15mph. I’m 90kg.

That wing is crazy fast up wind! So fast I initially thought I would have to abandon my hopes of jumping. After 30 min I acclimated and started with back rolls as somehow that seemed easier than straight to boosting. Back rolls were so dreamy and smooth. The landings to a little to get right. Then I tried boosting.

Holy crap! Sooo high with so little effort and skill! Landings took maybe a dozen to get it, then I tried of course to go higher.

My guys were saying I was over 20feet easy. These were freaken baby attempts and sooo high and floaty. Wow!

The potential is huge and now I got what you guys are talking about re foiling boosting!

And now I need a woo.....

Hi,

I have noticed the same. Jumping high is a lot easier with foil. Landings are easier the smaller the wings are. I have zeeko spitfire which is perfect for jumping. TT riding in lake conditions I could jump 5m. Foiling I can jump over 10m. I can jump 10m in 8 knots when my TT friends just dream that they could go upwind.

Foiling rules! Especially for big air in lake conditions

No, by the percentage of kites you can look down on from above and the nice view. Woo only confirms that you went huge that session, as do the guys with open mouths on the beach.

Boosting on the foil makes my twintip collecting dust on all days with 7bft or less. So no TT this season so far, who could have thought that a few years ago!
Last week tried to jump with longer 18m lines instead of the 11m race-setup, making the jumps more floaty, landings easier and heli-loops possible with my 10m Aero.

yes, sure with woo.... but hey I measured it also with woo when I was using TT. And it definitely is much higher with foil. But in my spot we almost never get winds over 20knots. I am sure that in 20 knots the difference is small or could be the other way around.

CWood,

I’ve been inspired by your posts re jumping with foil. Any tips re equipment and technique to help the learning curve?

Thx,
Salvino

This duck is 10 meter high

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean its impossible. In 11 knots i have hit 10m on a prodigy and an old tkf foil and I suck compared to some local foilers. so with a fast wing and fast light kite should be able to in 8 knotts. The faster you go the higher the jump and those race foils go fast. I just dont like boosting in less than 10 knotts because I tend to Hindenburg and have to swim in.
