I am interested in getting a carbon foil.
I like my Al one but it’s heavy and the wing options are limited.
I ride often in dark or murky water, and live in the south, where the sun is hot.
I want my foil visible, and cool.
If I buy one that only comes in black, what are good painting options?
I don’t mind taking a little care, and anticipate needing touch ups from time to time.
What are good options for diy, and relatively safe for me (and the gear) to apply?
Grateful for any knowledgeable suggestions...

Any spray can paint would be fine. Do a light sanding first for better adhesion and then thin coats. If you wet sand the paint its like a fairing compound to some degree so you can get it very smooth.

A basic light grey primer paint in a can. By some denatured alcohol, disposabe latex gloves and some papertowels plus a sheet of 400 & 800 g wet dry sandpaper.
Wet sand first with 800g. Just to Matt it.
Wash off, dry. Clean with DNA.
Spray 3-4 light coats, dry 5 min between.
Dry overnight.
Wet sand with 400-800g.
Touch up as it wears off.
I find this lets me see minoor damage easier and I can touch up and fix before damage affect riding.

yeah, regular old rattle can primer is the way to go. It comes in tons of colors now, but grey is pretty easy to see as it creates a nice contrast with water. TomW hit the nail on the head in terms of process, but I'd personally work all the way up to 1k/1500 grit for a racier finish; not necessary for freeride.
