Would you suggest learning both feet off the same side or straddle style (one foot off each side) first?
Both feet on the same side.

When I get sitting,both feet are off to same side. But then I very quickly get one to each side, so straddling board. The upwind leg is bent at knee with foot on center of board. The leeward leg is mostly outstretched and is used to adjust pitch by bending or extending knee. Also my upper body is used for pitch control and as I’m improving I need the leg much less.
Then to gybe board I switch the position of my legs so it helps to initiate a roll towards leeward and then I downloop kite.
Super thrilling and definitely gave my abs a good workout!

I haven't tried sitting yet, but would like to sometime soon. As far as getting back to your feet, I just saw this move in a Cabrinha video... (it's at 1:32 if you can't be bothered with the other bits of the video
)

EDIT: Sorry, I'm apparently not smart enough to just post the video here.
