Sitting on foil. So fun!

Postby salvino » Sun Jul 29, 2018 2:06 am

I’m a few sessions into sitting on foil and today was breakthrough. 18-26mph riding grooveskate pocket board on Onda 633 9m and then 7m Neo kites.

It’s like an amusement park ride! Crazy fun and funny at same time! Waves on Lake Erie got to 6 feet and that was soooooo fun. It’s amazing the breakthrough that can happen when wind is good. The transfer from standing to sitting was a hurdle, but no longer.

Try it. It is crazy fun

I fear that once i get down there I might never back up.
I have exactly the same kit as you, and think that if i could get to kneeling down then getting back up might be doable.
maybe one day.

It is possible, but even if I have done it a few times I normaly don't care and am to lazy as it just cost some force and can be a bit dangerous, so normaly I just drop and restart. For me even more important would be: learn jibes sitting, so you can sit down, relaxe and full manouver for hours and no need to stand up. And jibes are not to difficult just turn in rodeo position and remember to well stear kite overhead first, there is no danger to try this till it works.

Sitting on foil is realy great fun and for me nearly most important reason to ride stabi foils, try to folow these steps, which show the overall potential:

1. Try to sit down during various positions (I prefer when switched or directly start flying foil from sitting)
2. Try to slalom and to turn around from side position to rodeo and back again.
3. Try to jibe
4. Try to jump out of rodeo and if you can do boardoffs maybe land it standing up (haven't done this succesfully but shouldn't be to hard)
5. Try to do flying 360 and then flying tacks
6. Now you are ready to become a "Caneri Man" so do it :D

All time relaxed foiling. :thumb:

Sitting down is easy, standing back up is a bit harder. Big differences between foils, i can not do it on some...
Here is a short video of me, while i was learning to stand up a few months ago.

Sitting down is probably the easiest trick to learn on a hydrofoil.

Agree. I learned sitting down right after the 180 carve in my first year if i remember corectly. But it took me way longer to stand back up foiling...
Both can not even compare to strapless tack that i am strugling with now though...

Ok. So some think this is sooo easy, but I don’t see others doing it. And as a working guy that needs my health and blood to stay inside my body, it was a little daunting task to sit.

Now I’m past that and having so much fun sitting and carving, gibing, etc. btw nykiter(?Brad). Waves by Hoaks restaurant ramped up to near 6 feet. Some spots u have to know where and when to go.

Standing back up is my next challenge and almost there.

Still, a thrilling experience.

I only tried sitting for the first time last session. Was getting close a couple of times but not long runs.

Would you suggest learning both feet off the same side or straddle style (one foot off each side) first?
