Mast Length for Boosting

Postby Glice227 » Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:10 am

Is a 111 cm mast best for boosting big? No tricks, just air.

According to many it is, there was a thread about this particular issue earlier :D

But it wouldn't be worse at tricks, unless you mean aerial tricks where a super short (light) is better of course.

You have a longer moment arm so you can create more line tension during the lead up to the jump by leaning as far back as possible without your wingtips ventilating.

Consider "jumping with a foil" is not much different from "taking a sword onto a trampoline"
Seems the question is related to the length of "the sword" with the little difference that the longer it is the higher you can supposedly jump :)

In front of my eyes a foil spinned out of water and sliced rider's own front lines, not sure if human skin and bones will resist those blades better.
Wondering when lost limbs pics will pop up, just like pics of missing teeth by board leash action.

Jumping is a lot of fun with a foil and not difficult. Whenever I think I should go back to strapless riding again I am reminded that you can't jump very well without straps so I stick with them. It is great to throw a big back roll in front of my friends who ride strapless. I am on a 100cm mast and it seems good.

Here is a master at jumping, Adam Withington, (using a Moses 101cm mast):

I have a feeling that Slingshot bet on Adam’s riding style back in 2017 and you can probably tell that 545 as well 576 and 600 wings are not seen much around. Neither is the Phantom wing which makes me think that bet wasn’t a winning one.

Of course there are people boosting with foil, pleasure to watch them!

Funny though when I asked Adam in January about mast length and the wing he couldn’t recall :) I’m sure he can boost to the skies on a 41cm mast and 633 wing. It’s more of rider abilities which make that, I believe
