Using the gear to test, learn and push the sport. One can easily ride with just 1-2 kites and a foil, mate...

on locations with light wind conditions, I would guess it may be reaching 90%..
I can tell you on my beach we are at 95% now.. And nobody wants to wait for wind with a twintip anymore. I hear from my friends at other light wind location that situation is very simular. 2 years ago it started exploding and is unstoppable now.

Sure,
and they are all TT converts isn't it?
Now, lets see: how many people say the HF looks hard to learn? And how many say TT looks easy? (we can say the same for the foil kites).
Is it if something looks hard that the people refuse to learn initially?
Do we learn to ride a mono bicycle first or a two wheels bike? What's easier to learn? This is the problem, if we all move to a HF, the number of new riders will drop. Simply b/c there is no conversion.
Same with the motorcycles, there is a conversion. Cars not so, but F1 (rally) yes. HF is F1 of kiting. No cars/carts, no F1. Simple. No one moves from bike to F1.
The only solution to lift the HF numbers up is to lift the TT/SB numbers up before...

at our spot 2 out of 3 riders are on foil.
the one who is not, is my wife...
with joking a side, I also see a growing number starting or at least considering to start to foil, however Im not sure about the high percentage, who will get over the frustrating beginning, let alone becoming a "dedicated" foiler...
cheers

I think this past thursday in Toronto it was almost 50/50. A number of us ride only foil no matter the conditions....but in reality, in less windy climates you either sit on the beach or foil. For those of us who are addicted, everything else seems archaic and plodding. I respect all the ways people get fun from the sport...for me I choose to focus on one type so I can advance in every session.

100% of cool kiters ride hydrofoils. 0% of cool kiters don't hydrofoil. 100% of twin tippers that foil 0% of the time are 0% cool.

One thing that's for sure about foils other than low wind chops - once ANYONE tried foiling in waves with a proper wave setup, the twintip goes in the basement and the addiction to the sport skyrockets.
Every. Single. Time. Nothing like it.
