Tuttle vs Deep tuttle

Postby tautologies » Wed Sep 26, 2018 7:06 am

Hi all, so I got an old kite raceboard that I want to foil surf. I have no idea if the boxes are tuttle or deep tuttle.

In the deepest part, the box is about 2.25in or 5.7cm, in the shallow end 1.75in or 4.5cm. It's about 6in or 15cm long. Any ideas?

What brand is it? From the depth I am thinking Chinook, but a lot of Raceboards that where produced at the Cobra Factory have a Box that has the depth of the chinook, but is also .5mm less thick, which means a normal Tuttle Fin wont fit unless you sand down the sides a bit

That’s a deep Tuttle Taut. But, that’s a windsurf deep Tuttle. GoFoil won’t fit without cutting head top at angle. GoFoil is 2.25 deep at “each end”.

Bolt hole alignment is slightly different too.

But you can make it fit no problem.

Here are some dimensions. A normal Tuttle mast should fit in a deep Tuttle box just fine. Sometimes the bolt holes are a bit off but that just takes a little attention.
I have been riding a normal Tuttle mast (Taaroa Joy) in a deep Tuttle box (Mikes Lab) for quite a while now with no problems. Remember that there is normally a gap at the top of the Tuttle mast head and the box in the board.. all the pressure is on the sides and front/back, none on the top.

Ah nice. Thank you for the responses guys.

RIght which means you'd be better off using a deep tuttle when the box is a deep tuttle right ;-)
Looking at the images I went and redid the measurements....I think a normal tuttle is what I am looking at. The board is a NJS designs raceboard.
