Moses 633 honeymoon is over

Postby pikovsg » Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:56 am

Lift 170 is better than Moses 633. Been riding the Lift 170 and cannot wipe the grin off my face:

– No front foot pressure and track position issues
– No need for stabilizer inserts
– Most important – way more nimble and skatey than 633
– Better carving and more normal tacks
– Better boosting
– Doesn't outrun 6ft+ waves (neither does 633, to be fair)
– Just a haiiiiir faster than 633
– Better durability - no chipped carbon on rear stabilizer after just a few sessions
– Lighter
– About the same low-end as 633, maybe half a knot less
– Bigger high-end than 633

In terms of how 170 compares to 150 - a lot more low end, doesn't outrun bigger waves, less speed and a bit less maneuverability. The latter two are to be expected, since it's a bigger wing area. If you get a chance to try it or compare, would def give it a try. For Lift haters out there - Lift front wings are not solid carbon, it's a sandwich construction. However, over two years of riding both Moses and Lift, all Moses wings and stabilizers have needed repairs, while only one of Lift wings went back to the factory for service. Service on both Lift and Moses was excellent. Still enamored by Moses 637, 548 and 550 wings.

Do you think learning gybes etc would be as easy on the lift?

I live on the other side of the ocean so it really doesn't matter. 633 is the best what we can access here without hassle.

However, interesting note on quality. I find Moses very high quality and I saw some really bad pictures of Lift foils (delamination etc), but maybe it's not an issue anymore.

the lift foils look good but the fact they are all one piece ( stab/front wing and rear) might be a deciding factor for many, good to hear that another firm is making a great wave style foil though,
It can only encourage the other firms to try and get to the same high standard, apart from Slingshot who are already there with re-branded Moses kit anyways, cant remember what their re-branded Onda 633 wing set is called.

Exactly my words too - eventually the initial stoke over these huge wings seem to change towards now being more suited for some conditions, say some waves t.ex. or your personal mood and liking on a given day.

So a bit smaller and faster wings now get really fun again, often more fun IMO.

I use both a 1200 cm2 surf and an 800 cm2 wave wing now, the latter more and more, now the period of "ecstasy" almost entirely only using big SUP/Surf wing with ridiculously small kites is over :D

So both the huge surf wings as well as the normal big wave wings are used, both makes sense.

Whereas the previous smaller wave wings, are mostly used for jumping now :naughty:

Yes, it would. There’s no initial front foot kick that 633 has and the track position is normal, and same benefits as with 633.

one reason I got 633 is that I can travel with it, without a ridiculously big duffle bag, I still have Lift 150 with the shorter mast 82cm for a local condition,
and I like that wing
