Fone 1200 front wing surf and kite hydrofoil?

Postby B19 ELS » Wed Oct 24, 2018 2:08 pm

Hi all, I was looking at getting an F One 1200 surf hydrofoil with a 65 cm mast and using it to foil kitesurfing and surfing. Will it be an OK beginner foil or too draggy kitesurfing?

I have had a few goes on a mates Shinn P foil and was up and going first go.

Do many of you kite on 65 mast or is 85 or more better?

Thoughts appreciated,

Elliot

I dont know about SUP mast lengths except many are super short...

But I use a 1200 cm2 surf wing often when I kitefoil, and use 91 or 100 cm masts, never shorter.

I got an 83 cm but way too short for my liking, so only used in special occasions...

Some say they ride with a 70 cm mast and wave wings though.

I just dont like the short ones at all.

But 90 works great, so if you can get an 85 it might work okay for both SUP and Kitefoil.

Others might have different preferences though as said, and like the short ones

Hi Peter, thanks for the advice.
How much do you weigh for kite foiling on the 1200cm front wing? I’m 82 kg.
What wind conditions do you go out in Witt the 1200? Super light wind? Is the foil draggy?

Yesterday I tried a f1 850 Wing. I normally ride a Moses 633. The F1 was almost as much lift as Moses 633. Stable in all directions. It's a good beginner Foil.

My friend is trying To learn on it and was on a F1 convertible surfboard. We had foothooks on it and the front strap position is totally wrong. It is 100--200 mm too far back. Makes you wonder if they even tried the thing with a foil on it...

I use a 75cm mast with a 82cm wide wing ... I might like a longer mast, maybe 82cm, cos with the wide wing and the short mast you have to be on the ball not to vent tips if you get aggressive with carves and unlucky with waves. But I like how crisp and responsive the set up is. I tried it on 90cm mast but it felt slow and heavy.

You can balance the foil if you can move the mast on the tracks, or shim it if you really have to.

I've had guys who weight 65 to 80 kg ride my 1500cm2 wing, and they had a nice time, no problem with getting lobbed :D 1200 sounds good, you'll enjoy a smaller kite and gliding forever...

Guess you were using the IC6 V2 foil on a Mitu convertible with KF box They are not compatible. F-One was clear about this, New foils (V2)are not compatible with older boards with kf box (box is at the wrong place) but V1 foils will fit new and old boards (mast track).

The board is a 2018 mitu pro convertible, the foil is 2018 IC6 V1. The footstrap position is wrong. F-one probably never rode it with foil and straps....

Hi - I weigh 78 kg.

Use the 1200 in 4 to 6 m/s quite often.

And an 800 wavewing when 6 or more, but sometimes also the 800 in less wind, depends on what I feel like.

If bigger waves and a lot of wind, the 1200 seems to work better than the smaller ones quite often though.

Not only for super light wind nope, but great to ride in 14 knots with a 5 m2 kite, kite turns fast, fast to rig, and you can SURF.

Of course any 1200 is draggy, but you dont feel it much in waves.
The most interesting thing is, if it is low AR (my Ketos is 3.6 in AR so turns blistering fast) you can turn and carve extremely narrow because they just "soar" with lower speed, so they feel just as fast (turning) or faster, than smaller wings - amazing

Strange IC6 V1 should be ok, a friend has the same set up , I rode it a few times and it works great (foiling since 2005).

Mast foot position and footstrap position on the Mitu convertible is the same as on all other F-One foilboards
