A local here has managed to pull one of the fuselage inserts out 1-2 mm. Its a Moses. Any repair suggestions?
Whacking it back would just be a temporary fix. Shimming the other side helps the fuselage angle temporarily.
Hard to say but a pic would help. Depends how those inserts are retained in the mast foot...I would imagine they have some sort of textured exterior for the resin to bite into....which might mean removing it, drilling the hole a bit bigger and then re-setting with epoxy.
My sailing buddy had the same happen to his mast, it was the earlier curved 93 cm mast, cwood wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:15 pmHard to say but a pic would help. Tightening firmly shouldn't be a problem if the fuselage is firm and correctly mated to the mast because the mast bottoms out against the fuse and therefor the insert would as well be hard against the fuselage aluminum. I suspect he had debris in the way and that left a gap and nothing opposing the insert as he cranked it tight.Foil wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 5:37 pmMy sailing buddy had the same happen to his mast, it was the earlier curved 93 cm mast, cwood wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:15 pmHard to say but a pic would help. He sent it to a guy who was very handy with carbon epoxy repairs but he sent it back saying that it was unclear how the inserts were fixed in and did not want to possibly wreck the mast by investigating too deeply.
So my buddy knocked it back flush again and continued to use it, after months of regular use it never moved again, strange that it never moved again, I still can't understand why it stayed flush after it raised out of its seating by 1or2 mm,
It would be good to know if it's fixed into the much wider part of the mast maybe 3 or more cm up from the thiner connecting spigot part.
After seeing this, I now don't leaver my fixing nuts as tight as I normally did,
Here you go. These threaded inserts sit flush with mast bottom.Peter_Frank wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 10:43 amCould someone post a picture of what we are talking about?
