Well a 9m will do that perfectly , you could maybe even go smaller. It's just when you start talking 5 knots that will be too low for a 9m. I would say as well your 8m edge won't get much use with a 9. The 8m edge would combine with a 11or12m foil easy.

As today I see a lot of great options for foil kites for more generic use = forgiving.
Chrono v2 9m
Speed5 9m
Lotus 8m (if your friend has 10m) is still on FS product page
Sonic-FR 9m
plus
ELFs
Paraavis
Rapace
Monjet
Pansh

now I bought 9m Pansh A15 foil kite that I find more user friendly. It was a bargain and works well. Like you, I can't budget in 2 pricey foil kites
can you tell me a bit more about your experience with the pansh? looks similar to the flysurfer speed 4 to my eyes.....

It's more original speed4 which is completely different than your friends lotus. It's a different kite than the speed 3 or lotus. It's not a race kite, though the smaller the size the higher the performance because of the thinner profile.

The 9m sonic is actually 8.6m squared. just an interesting tidbit. all the other sizes are as advertised. ex a 11m is 11m squared. The 9m more closely feels similar to an 8m to me.

its got me looking for a smaller foil....possibly 7m v2 chrono or 6m SP5.....
