Dedicated topic to split the 20 pages on the 12m ...

I am in love  ... I ordered a Pulsion 15m ...
Love is blindness : not reasonnable for my light weight but I was so stuck with the last static test I made Saturday with the 12m so now I target to hydrofoil in even lower winds ... :baby:

The kite should arrive in 3 weeks; in the mean-time, here is a video with a TT board.

https://youtu.be/9_Aakv-osbY

The rider is 110 kg with a Pulsion 15m and the other kite (white and green reflects that we sometime see) is a Pulsion 12m.

Yes Ultralight. For.my weight and with a HF it is the only reasonnable option ! Wind range target is 4-8 I hope for me so i need one that stays in the air with same poor wind as the 12m.

The bar is the concept'air bar i believe, but a bit "different" from standards, like safety on rear lines. Coming from Snowkite world ...

The big guy is having fresh water fun on TT with 15 sqm in coolish Quebec wind 12-15 mph ... it's described as a "vent leger" for the video description...because for so many that's light wind
Hey small Regis you would have been pretty nuked out on his 170x50 door with that size kite

What is your point or your question exactly ? technical question -> technical answer.
There seem to be far less than 15 knots if it is your "honest concern".

Yeah no biggie... of course not 15 knots...my guess was 12-15 mph...so averaging 13.5 mph or 11.8 knots

So, coming from the 12m Pulsion here in Boston, a few questions on the 15m.

How much lower wind can you TT on a 15m vs. 12m? What about the same for the Hydrofoil?
Is there TOO much pull for the hydrofoil? I find the pull from the 12m pretty strong already.
Does it turn quite a bit slower than the 12m?
What specific dynamics are different from 12m?

Which one just feels more right on the water?

Recommendation with PullStrings - just ignore everything he posts. The more you respond, the more garbage he'll spit out, so I just ignore. Helps keep the forum post clean. He quiets down pretty fast.

Lots of crew here curious about the kite.

I think the concept of these kites are interesting. With the strutless kites you have what is an attempt at ultralight inflatables. With these it's an attempt at ultralight foils. The Monjet Ninox is still not out, but that could be an interesting option, but maybe it is not out because it's not working as well as hoped? In my head I have a foil with the rear 1/3 or 1/4 single skin. I think that could work very well. I think flysurfer has gone down the path of overbuilding their foils. All those straps must add weight . They certainly make repairing a bit of a nightmare. It's great to see guys discover that foils don't need be ultra high AR. I think they are realizing there is other benefits to foils than just winning races. I think it's great other brands are making these kites as flysurfer seems to have all but given up on anything but high AR foils.

@ pikovsg :difficult to answer, we'll have to wait for reports ... say -20% wind approx. I expect less than 1 knot for my light weigh in Hydrofoil, but more speed in the same 5 knots !

Benoit just sent me this report on his Hydrofoil, that I translate as follows :
Image

" yesterday, a dream session with the 15m on St Jean lake; I arrive late and the wind is gone, only few waves still present. Shit. Sheets on the trees hardly move, seem to be 3-4 knot on the water maybe less, not sure to be able to ride ; no wind on the beach but I see a wind area far way in the water, about 10-15 km away. Let's see as a minimum if my last modifications works . I take the 15m that need 1 knot to fly ... easy and I have a good feeling... Let's give it a try. Easy to walk backward in the water, one 360 loop, and go for a wonderful ride, I go upwind rapidly without pain, I follow the beach on 10 km and the wind area is not far now. I go toward it, and tack, I ride very fast!Initially I also had to test one thing on the 12m but I can't stop.... After 3.5 hours of foil I come back with dark sky and houses lights on. It is strange to foil in cross waves in the night ... (wind had turn 45 degree). Back to house, with a strange smile, mixing fatigue and dreams. These kites are magic"

Personal note : "1 knot" is maybe subjective I do not know, I would say 3 knots for MY wind references for my 12m; anyway and who cares, I can just confirm that I never saw a kite flying in such poor winds ... overcoming significantly both Lotus and even Silver Arrow in my humble experience.
