Pansh A15 12 and 15 mts low end difference

Postby rolkite » Fri Oct 21, 2016 12:33 am

Hi, I would know the lowest wind limit for these two foils, assuming 67kg on a sector v4 54 and some light wind experience.
I ve tried this board with a lei 12mts Flite v3 (reaching 8/9 knots min) and wonder if a foil kite will deliver better lowend.
Will I get a much better performance with the 15 mts over the 12? I didnt fly any foil yet.
Thanks a lot.

At your weight, yes.. maybe down as low as 5knots, with a foil board especially, AND especially with the 15m.

I have the A15 12m size and it needs at least 12knots on a twin-tip (136cm) and me at 81 pies.
I don't have the A15 15m, but a friend in Cairns has the 18m A15 and he's out there in 8knots, and on a twin tip (144cm)

I think a good PANSH quiver is the 9m, 12m, and 18m for the A15 kites. The new Aurora 2 kites, well probably the same, but have yet to see one in the flesh

I use the 15m aurora 2 in 12kts on a twin tip at 85kgs. May have gone lower. Once out with 2 guys on 17m lei that were struggling but I had no issue staying upwind like them.

I have tried the A15 in 12, 15 and 18m back to back in estimated 8-10 knots of wind.
Bars were all 1:1. The difference between the sizes is of course clearly visible but not as large as I expected. Comparing 12 and 15; the added power of the 15 is partially compensated in the 12 by the faster turns which makes it easier to use up or downloops to generate a power spike to get going and create apparent wind. The 18 meter could just be looped flying it on 24 meter lines standing on the beach. I would not do that on the water as the wingtip touched the ground... I would put both 15 and 18m on a 2:1 bar or do one of the bridle mods discussed on this forum.

At your weight on the sector, 12m an 15 meters low end will differ max 2 kts. (which is a lot). If you already own a flite 12m you should go for the 15m and rig it on a 2:1 bar. If you just tried the flite and are looking into an alternative with better low end you could go for the 12 as well. The high end is not fantastic and windrange is in my experience limited compared to a LEI. Pansh a15 12m is my first foilkite as well and it flies not that different compared to a LEI Very suitable kite to start with..

The 22m has the ultimate low end and a 15m fits nicely with it. 12s and 15s are very close indeed. Where using a smaller kite has benefit is with wind range and top end. For every knot you gain on the low you loose about 3 on the top and vice versa.

Looking at your weight, either size will make a good light wind kite and you will benefit from the ultralight version. You need to think how it will fit with your other kites or whether you want it to replace them. You could opt for an 18 or even 22, if you wanted to kite 5-9knots. If you plan on getting a hydrofoil then maybe bigger than 15 is not really needed, 12 could be perfect.
