80kg/175lbs - FS Sonic2 11m will I foil at 6-7knots? Or do I need 13m2?

Firstly, sorry about putting my questions to both "foil kites" and "hydrofoil" sections, but perhaps not all users flip to both sections so I try to get a better coverage by doing so.

So my light wind search continues :o My target is to foil at around 6-7 knots

I (80kg/175lbs) ride Moses Fluente + T40 strapless and my only options are either 12m or 15m Voyager III or then preferably as small Sonic 2 as possible. FS has a windchart showing 11m foiling at 6knots, same as with 13m. I believe the highend for Sonics are much better than with strutless Voyagers, am I right?

The question here; will the 11m Sonic 2 do it for me for the target low end range or would I really need the 13m?

The 11m is obviously faster than the 13 so the peak power via power loop with a faster kite makes up a bit from the missing 2sqm compared to the 13m, but is this speed enough? I'm definitely not after the crazy upwind angles, it's more about just getting on the foil and practicing maneuvers and enjoying the silence

EDIT: oh, and is there a difference in stability/user friendliness in very light winds between the 11m and 13m?

Thanks for you replies!

hello,

Im in the same situation...
My weight is 175lb and I ride straples 600cm2 front wing Fone foil.
Just got back from a surf trip to Fuerte where I tested my brand new Diablo V1 11m2
A friend of mine had a 15m2.
We had two days of light wind.
In my experience, when the wind droped to low to go out with the 11m2, the 15m2 did not offer me comfort to ride.
As soon as the wind picked up a few knots I was a OK. on my 11m2.
Of course I needed to dive the kite faster to water start, but once on the foil, it was perfect.
I think I made the right decision getting the 11m2.

We did not have a wind meter with us, we "guestemat"
it to be aprox. 5-7 maxing to 8-10knots.

It was my first time with a foil kite,I have lots to learn.

hope it helps... cheers

Joining this question ;)
I use Speed 5 9m to foil from 9-10 knots
And have Speed 5 18m, but it's not fun for foil. I use it mostly for Airstyle on TT.
So curious if I need 11 or 13 sonic 2 to foil in ultra light wind, I mostly cruise, working on my transitions and want to start jumping. So no racing.

Going to try both in next month, but would like to hear some other experience.

If you want the Sonic 2 as your low end kite I would get the 13 m. I have been out with a Foiler in 8 kts (measured at beach) and he (175 pds) was on a 15 m Sonic 2 and was not over powered. I was foiling on a 14.5 m OR Flite. I am now also looking for a light wind stay in the air kite. At 160 pds I am going to try the CondeptAir Pulsion Light and 30 m lines.
