Had a dealer ride with me on snow - He was on a HL and I was on my trusty HQ Matrixx I. He was the one that noted my kite stayed up better, and had less folding issues. I noticed this too, even though I have not ridden the HL. He is a dealer and said Ozone was not providing a break on demos for his shop anymore. So no chance of me trying them out.

Ozone makes some great kites, but always beware of a new model/design with them. It takes them some time to work out the kinks. Actually, it seems that the customers are their guinea pig for what's wrong with their new ideas.

That is the total opposite of HQ - HQ seems to nail it the first time, then mess it up every time after that.

Thanks guys, I'm trying to replace the Mono 12. It's a good kite but I'm looking to a kite that depowers without a bunch of fluttering, and gives a bit more static lift for transitions.

So if at 80 kg ( actually 76 kg in my skinnys) and on Moses 590 wing, I was looking to get a HL 12 UL. For 8-14 knots.
Some have recommended the HL12, others the HL 9.

Jakemoore, what's your weight. If you are 75 kg and going in 8knots on the HL 9, then that's an indication I could make it work. The HL 9 has the equivalent PA as my Mono 12.

WH, I'll never try to kite in 6 knots. Too risky here. I'm looking at lulls of 8knots. And holding to 15 knots on Hf is perfect. The HL 12 has the PA of a 14m tube.

If you are replacing your 12m Mono maybe 9m is the solution. As an indication I own a 11m F-One Breeze (one strut kite) and a 9m F-One Diablo (high aspect foil kite). The Diablo gets me going with 2 knots less wind ( 6 knots) and has roughly the same high end (15 knots). I weigh 65kg and ride most of the time a 510 cm2 speed wing.
I suspect the HL is not as efficient or powerful as a Diablo though.

Thanks again for all the information. I pulled the trigger on a Hyperlink Ultralight 9m with Bar that has 20+5m lines. I have some 3m extensions I can use too.

I'm nervous about if it will have the low end of my Mono 12, but confident it will get more use than a bigger foil would. We don't have light and consistent winds here, no thermals except super rarely.

Keeping my 12-9-7 Monos, they might get used by my soon 13 yr old son who is now in bodydrag stage of kiting after 5hrs of lessons in cabarete.
I'll use them for foiling and surfboard.

Be really interesting to see if the HL 9 will cover the Mono -12and 9 range. I have used the Mono 9 alot.

Supposed to get it in 3 weeks.

TomW – Will be interested to hear how you get on with your 9m HL-UL. The low end they produce and being a UL version could well make 1 or 2 of your kites redundant. I’ve been considering an HL for ages and still undecided. Wanted a less “racy” kite to use from time from time, it wouldn’t fit into my Chrono quiver and would be simply be an alternative kite to use.

UL material is all very well and I will probably go for this option if I upgrade to the V3 Chrono. However I'm not sure there is any claim about a better low end with the UL material - once the kite is flying it is going to have no more power than the standard version. The difference is that is will launch more easily, is less likely to fall out of the sky in a lull and is maybe a little more reactive.

I've been told it might have a bit better high end.
Real reason I got UL is that I want it you be small and light for travelling.
I'm planning on making a carbon tube bar too, and thinking over making a " removable nose " travel board also.

My launches are pretty clean, there's not much UV up here and considering the 60-70 sessions I do a year I think most of my kites will become outdated first, or I'll be too old to kite, before they wear out.

With UL versions reported to weigh 25% less than a standard foil, I just imagined that a lighter kite equates to a better low end?
I’ve travelled with my 18m Chrono on a number of occasions, it packs quite well having spent much time neatly folding it, but understand your need for a UL version.
Here in the UK, it’s yet to get above 10 degrees so not warm enough for me as yet.
