Help settle a bet

Postby Macster » Thu Aug 09, 2018 12:31 am

Me again. My friend and I bought our first foil kites about 5 months ago and are learning. He got a chrono and I got a Hyperlink and soul.

I like to do lots of kiteloops and freeride on my foilboard. He also feerides but manages to do so with minimal looping cause he reckons kitelooping will wear our expensive foil kites out faster...

Any truth to that? Im not usually looping the kite when its at the top of its wind range so i wouldn't have thought the pressure / forces would be too much?

Looping won't wear out your kite sooner, IMHO, but it may wear out your lines sooner (due to friction generated by crossed lines).

You can stretch one side more that then other, just alternate loops. Whenever you move the rear lines, either sheeting or turning, you move the pulley lines and pulleys, wearing them. These are replaceable parts like depower ropes.

You can rotate the bar while looping so lines don't cross. I have lines last 1000's of hours.

So what do you think of Hyperlink vs chrono3 and Soul?

Short answer is that you cant go wrong with any of those kites and that it comes down to rider style and what is most important between price, speed, freeride or race.

The Chrono v3 stays in the air in next to no wind and delivers huge power but its a slow turner and needs more expert input when flying.

The Hyperlink is so easy to fly and rig. Loops quick but takes on water fast if you drop it.

Soul offers the best relaunch, is agile but doesnt have the best low end.

For me and my style, I prefer the Soul cause Im still learning and drop the kite in the water a lot plus I like to do lots of kiteloops.
