It may slide a little but it's still easier than just grabbing back lines with the kite high, making it shoot through the power zone on the way down. If you can get it to where the tip is touching the ground and then gently pull both back lines, obviously a bit more on the back line at the upper end I find it comes to a rest pretty gently. Although don't take my word for it - this is just the made up way I have found easiest. As I pull on the back lines I probably end up walking a little upwind to minimise how much the kite moves as well....possibly...?! I prefer to have a stake and a brake line (as per Ozone foil bars) but I know some on here seem to think that these are terrible, but I like the fact you can just loop the brake line onto a stake (provided it's reasonably secure) and then wander over to the kite rather than having to walk all the way to the kite keeping tension on the back lines.

Used to do that all the time when I landboarded - either a large screw driver or dog walkers spiral stake - It was easier in those days as the old Flysurfers(psycho1, mastair etc) would sit on their trailing edge whilst on leash. Newer ones Chicken loop and OS handles

If you tether on the chicken loop on the side of the wind window is there any way to land safely? What method?

I have the ozone stake and although is very useful to land the kite when mountainboarding on the grass, I find it useles on the fine grain sand beaches I usually kite.

For me the perfect tool for landing foil kites is a caribiner and a strong supermarket bag, just for 1'60 €!

Ikea Bag. The blue ones. Wrap a line around the outside of it.
I used to do this for side launch of LEI.

I have always been told not to start/land tethered with a foil kite. Since it is not a rigid structure like a LEI it might go wrong in case of gusts/unstable wind.

For a LEI kite, tethered is about the safest way to start/land if no assistant is available. For a foil I would self start most often side ways and only in low wind fully downwind. For landing, andylc has a good approach mentioned in this topic or just pull safety.

Nah .t's not a problem as when braked - kite just wants to sit on it's trailing edge - With older flysurfers it was great - you'd throw the bar and the kite would drop onto it's trailing edge - teh only issue would be that in high winds there would still be quite abit of pull - but if you can tether the leash you are sorted
