Packing up a foil kite with wet bar

Postby FLandOBX » Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:35 pm

Okay, foil kite users.....how do you pack up your kite with a wet bar? I follow the procedures in the Flysurfer/Ozone videos and roll my bar in my kite. Problem is, my bar is always wet after a session and, even after I put it into a stuff sack, it gets my kite wet. I can't stand a wet kite. I thought about rolling the kite without the bar, but then the chance of tangled bridles increases. I don't want to detach the bar, of course. What's the solution? :?:

Here is what I always do (again):
Flat kite, put the briddle on the kite, wind up your lines so that You leave some lines out in the middle and put there your bar.
Fold kite, tip on tip, roll up. Fold in half or in 1/3’s
Voilà bar outside your kite, leave it outside the bag till its dry.

I used to do the same as Janus, once folded in 1/3’s the kite goes into the bag, the bar gets washed under a tap and the strapped to the outside of the bag to dry. Now with a carbon bar I can forget the bar wash bit.

Thanks, guys. I'll try it. It'll allow me to wash the bar, too, so good solution. :thumb:

I always pack my bar outside of kite and bag's kite compartment. Fs bag has mesh pocket on the side, I put it there. Also easy to take away and rinse.

I do the same as airsail, bar outside, rinse, and dry. I also put my kite in a large plastic garbage bag and my bar in a smaller garbage bag:
- Cramming the kite in the backpack is less abrasive if the kite is in a plastic bag
- Pulling the kite out of the backpack is less abrasive if the kite is in a plastic bag
- Packing up the wet sandy bar in a bag it can stay separate from the kite
- Rinsing the bar/lines with the kite in a plastic bag it stays dry
- After the bar/lines are dry putting it in a bag reduces snags and tangles with the kite bridles
- Gearin' up outta garbage bags is ghetto beach cred :lostteeth:

I will rollup the kite with the bar in front of the leading edge and put the kite back in the bag with the bar outside the bag in the outside pocket. Still have the benefits of bar attached to kite without a soggy mess.

Been doing that way with bar/lines in front of central LE for 19.5 years whether it's a ram air or tube
Lines have never come off any of the kites i have owned...even when i sold them
I believe in complete tuned units
Pack faster & set-up faster is an other plus
