Simply cheap DIY F wing male mold

Postby revhed » Wed Dec 03, 2014 8:53 pm

Maybe an idea for all you DIY guys.
Because HW gave me the idea to make a BIG F wing I built my 3rd F wing male mold.
My fav low AR wing was made the same way but mold was not big enough.
Base, pressed wood from an old furniture, perfectly flat.
2 mm thick gal metal from old fridge, common wood screws.
curve 5 cm high at 50 cm wide.
open under to allow 60W light bulb for heat cure, a thick strofoam box will be placed over for the night cook.
Tolerences controled to +,- 1 mm
Vac sac for sure at half a bar.
As I will use Clark Y profile, flat bottom will be just fine.
I will also use this to lay up a high A R 8, thanx GuN, or so wing just to test.
It really is to bad that flat wings suck because they could be layed up on thick glass.
I will alternate 1000g quadri carbon with 300g F glass to be able to see the layers for better shaping.
Just another method.

I sure hope someday soon I can use a 3d printer to make high tec plugs and molds, and even a cnc would help but I have neither, so lots of time!

I've been asking for models to make a mold from. I'd have to print it in pieces but I could definitely 3d print a mold.
