Hey all

so after many months of research , many liters of epoxy and a good few meters of carbon i have a foil that im almost happy with

the first thing that needs changing is the top mount, the current one is very square .. however it will be fine if it is sunk into the board but then there is no adjustment (f box)

next are a few different front foil blades to accommodate different riding styles

there are 3 different 3d printed spacers for different angles on the rear blade to change foot pressure

now all that is needed is wind

Are you an experienced hydrofoiler, or have you ridden your new build, or is it a "first time build" and no riding experience ?

If you havent learned yet, I would not build the other ones till you know WHAT you want (or want to tweak/change), would be my advice - unless you have loads of time now

But you can also have other experienced to test it out for you maybe, and then it is good to have a handful of diffferent ones indeed .

This is concept number 3 the last foil was a little on the flimsy side and now this foil is a bit on the overkill side

im hardly an experienced rider , but i know what im looking for ...

one pf the problems here in SA is the cost of the foil, with the exchange rate the way it is its very costly to import a foil and therefore fewer people riding them , so its hard to gauge against other brands

when the wind is decent im sure there will be plenty video

In Capetown Christoff rides and builds his own, one of the pioneers I would say, and he is a good and friendly guy in every way

i have not met christoff , but have heard about him , apparently he is in Dubai now ?

i have finally got a few sessions in on the foil and am very happy with the way it rides ...
unfortunately the water level here is super low , so i am learning on a short mast before i hit the open water

Hi Blackrat, your new foil looks very good, may you have many smooth miles on it.

Just to inform you that we have a very keen and active foiling group up in Richards Bay KZN. I started in 2014 and now there are 9 (yes, nine) of us foiling here, 8 riding on home built foils.

We are lucky, in that we have access to areas of the harbour, giving us plenty of deep flat water to utilize. Its easy to ID the kitefoilers here; just look for the foil smiles!

WSS wow thats excellent news ! hydrofoiling is really taking off in South Africa (scuse the pun )

and there is a very obvious reason why 8 of the nine riders are riding DIY foils, cause of the absolutely crazy exchange rate to the dolla/euro

im super jealous of your riding spot , the lagoon here has a channel that is deep enough, but it also has the highest traffic. As soon as im better i will change to my longer mast and start playing there ( i can turn to toe side but struggle to keep going)

i have made a few of these foils , i have four guys riding them in Capetown and so far the feedback has been excellent ( another one going asap but got a technical hitch to sort out before it goes)

i even had a pro rider on it who gave it the thumbs up and made a few comparisons to some top brands ... so im really chuffed
