Wing profile for stabilizer

Hello
I designed my front wing with an Eppler 817 profile. I'm wondering if I should use the same for the rear wing (stab) as well, just mounted upside down as the desired lift is opposite to the front wing.

Ooo good question. Let me know when you get the answer.
I just cut new templates. I went with these, probably because they are very similar to spotz 2 . I thickened the top to 130% and left the bottom at 100.%

The foil pairing varies as much as everything else.

you should be fine , if the worst comes to the worst then you will need to shim it causing a bit of drag

the rear stab profile needs to be flipped to work better. right now the way they are shown you have a lift lift set up. people have tried and they work but work better with lift and push set up

And from what I have see and done. if you are building your first set of wings flat bottom front flat top rear is a good starting point before getting to crazy with true profiles.

I would use a normal symmetrical profile.

How much negative aoa do you think the stabiliser (typically) has?

Actually, does anyone know ?

Of course there is change in aoa at 8 degrees, from zero lift to max lift for the e874, so depends on whether you are talking about full speed or going slow or upwind.

I am not so sure you have negative lift always, on the stabiliser.

Airplanes and gliders dont, in fact many of the neutral and agile ones have zero and even positive lift on the stabiliser.

One interesting question could be: How would you ever measure the actual aoa on a stabiliser, at a given front wing aoa???
Remember, there is also downwash from the front wing.

Still, my intuition says (no facts, but does anyone have this?) that there is no reason to use an upside down assymetrical profile on the stabiliser - but this is maybe just me :naughty:
