Building my first hydrofoil

Postby Lev737 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 11:21 am

Hi guys!

Never tried it- it's too expensive to buy yet...
Spent this winter my days off to experiment with building hydrofoil and the board.
Also built a few different wings and stabs with different AR.
Please find my pictures attached and if it's possible -send me your feedback.

Cheers :jump: .

Nice rookie build Lev! What materials did you use for the board, wings, fuselage? More importantly, how does she ride?

Nice! Good job.

I like the U Channel fuselage ... low tech and looks effective. Is that stainless steel?

Interesting.

I have a couple of thoughts.

Mast seems real short whats its length?

I worry the channel and bolt heads/nuts will provide turbulence and reduce performance. Perhaps consider filling in the channel.
I also wonder if the rear vertical stab is too far forward to be effective? You could mount it directly above the rear stab.

Is the board also used without the foil? if not why install fins?

Cool shit, like U idea, although why not fill it in where it's not needed. Are those tuttle boxes on the wings?

My first thought looking at your wing thickness was: This reminds me of the old DC3. Won't be fast, but it might fly forever. HUGE back wing.

Nice work.

Thank you juandesooka!

It's Aluminum alloy 6063 T6.
And it's 2 channels- please look at my sketch...

Hello plummet !

1.I've built 3 masts- 550, 750 and 950 mm long;
2. All empty spaces in both channels I filled with foam;
3.For the front bolts and nuts, I'm planning to make a cover...;
4. Made the board with fins in purpose - I could use it as a regular board...
5. The vertical stab can be moved back- no problem :jump:
Fins can be removed.
Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you bigtone667 !
The idea was just to have some fun and get some experience while building not expensive prototype which I could use for learning....
No sharp edges and short mast to start.
I calculated the stab and the wing area- should be OK.
