Slingshot Hover Wings...what are they?

Postby NYKiter » Fri Aug 11, 2017 12:48 am

Dont appear to be G10....Micarta or Corian?

They advert them as simply "composite"

I don't know the answer....will be interested to hear what material it is.

I thought G10 and micarta were the same thing, but Mr. Google explains otherwise ... G10 is fibreglass strands with epoxy resin, micarta is linen or cotton strands with phenolic resin.
Corian seems to be solid plastic, so not a composite? Dunno.
I have been on the lookout for a cheap(er) source of G10, or an alternative equivalent material ... learning a bit more about what all these variations are. Got excited by how cheap "phenolic" is ... but not quite the same thing I fear.

Sorry if a hijack.

Same here. Im guessing they are Corian....cheaper than G10...wonder if it smells better than G10 under the grinder....

My buddy has one...got some scrapes...no grain...

perhaps a steel plate embedded in hydrodynamic putty?
Any body tested with a magnet or coil?
Do they affect compasses and radios?
Whatever it is, they work well enough....

By the weight I'd guess depleted uranium

Definitely not Corian , it's brittle and chips easily

The last slingshot wing I looked at weighed a ton ! I presumed it was just a super thick polyester/vinylester laminate

My guess is polycarbonate with chopped glass fibres. I've bought twin tip fins from Taiwan made this way and they are strong and light.
