Has anyone used pigments in their laminating epoxy or is it just used for filling/sanding coats and finishing coats as I've heard it affects strength. Thanks

I use pigments (liquid and powder) in most of my boards , no problems with strength at all.

Depending on the pigment you may or may not be able to get opaque color without adding so much pigment strength is affected, especially with thin layers. I think I’ve seen some epoxy pigments that say they are ok for strength at up to 2% volume, if that helps...

I use pigments, both paste and a tint liquid.
It won't affect strength, it will not be opaque.
There's 2 main approaches:
1. Tint the foam blank before clear laminating.
2. Tint The resin during one or all of laminations.
A few tips:
Mix a small amount of resin Base and pigment, like 20-50ml first and add that to your overall Base and mix well. Then add hardener.
Getting a lam direct onto a unsealed foam blank to be even is an Art. Really difficult.
Seal the blank first and it's likely to be uneven.
So I usually clear lam first, then let that kick and do final lams with tint.
Check swaylocks for tips.

I've used the mixol brand tints on some art projects, the colors are so condensed that you couldn't imagine them changing the strength. Like two or three drops to color six oz.

powderized street chalk, construction snap line chalk, pigmented mica powders all work very well. UV resistance is an issue for lighter and brighter colors
