Ten Tips to Land Any Trick

Kiteboarding is all about being in control of your mind and body. Over the years I've learned a lot about learning and teaching new tricks.
These tips will help you land almost anything you can imagine. From beginner tricks all the way to the most advanced trick you can imagine.

This week I want to talk about 10 things you can do to help you land any trick in any sport. This is going to be a three part series over the next three weeks. Today we'll get into the first three tips.

Tip one
Visualization
You need to be able to visualize what your body will be doing during the trick. Close your eyes and walk yourself through it. People often just go for it. This is wrong. Landing tricks is all about body awareness and mind body connection. I do this step before every trick.

Tip two
Body and shoulders follow the head
Think of your head, eyes, chin and shoulders as one cohesive unit. For example, doing a backroll you look over the front shoulder. At the same time, you open that shoulder up. This applies to spins too. In order to complete a rotation, you need to keep looking. So remember,
The body will follow the head

Tip three
Stay compact
This tip applies to most tricks. Most kiteboarding tricks are a combination of spins and flips, so this is important. The more compact you are, the faster and easier it is to rotate. To stop the rotation, simply open up. Also, if you’re overeating, you can open up and straighten out to slow down the rotation.
The timing will vary of course. If you're doing a laid out back flip you want to do it a bit slower and so on.

That's it for the first part of this series. We're doing three videos on this. Next week I'll break down a few more tips for you.
