New ozone winter kites

Postby Cray » Wed Oct 12, 2016 4:51 pm

Cheers guys!

Access and Summit are new for 2017, but it seems Frenzy is still the 2015 model. Does anyone know if Ozone plans to release a new Frenzy for this year?

Really like the new Summit look :). Anyone managed to test new Ozone stuff?

New Summit V4 are on order. Yes, they look great and in depth review soon as I get out on the snow.

Well, the Frenzy... Isn´t it exciting to ride our 2015 models, being still up to date? :-) Moreover when you can easily upadte the 2015 to 2016 which is the same as the 2017 model? http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19 ... 30#p910130

Frenzy and Summit look ok, like they used to do. Simple and reliable kites, Summit has even some performance ability and Frenzy is a nice all-arounder. These kites do not have anything special for their specs, but long development and optimization of the details has lead to remarkable results.

But Access looks cheap. It had earlier mediocre 20 cells - or was it 18, now sad 14. This is devolution, apparently for cutting the costs. Using 14 cells for a foil kite - even though low AR - is like going 20 years back in time.

Hi, we will not release a new Frenzy this year, the V10 is still our current model and got great feedback from last years snowkiters.

The Summit V4 is all new with much smoother cuts due to our new design program updates, new internal structure taken from the R1 and better control on the openings of the cells which means quicker inflate and so more stable. It looks great too with the new design we hope.

The Access V7 although has fewer cells than previous years still has the same amount of cells as last year V6 but it performs better in the segment of Cruiser/Beginner/School kite. It is super stable and got great range and a fantastic safety system that all the range has. If you are not a beginner then the Frenzy is the all rounder that you should be looking at. I have a 6m Access in the bag for the storm days as you cant beat it for gust munching and a good not too fast turn. The 4m is also a great kite for backcountry exploring on high wind days.

Thanks for your interest and I hope that the snow comes down hard this year! Long live the cold.

Cheers Iain

Yeah, a Frenzy is a good alround kite, but a lot of snowkiters are going for the Chrono 2 or one of Flysrufers closed-cell kites. You just get a lot better performance and the ability to use the kite year-round with a closed cell kite.

I would like to see Ozone try to one-up the FS Peak 2. Single-skin kites make a lot of sense for backcountry use. The Peak 2 is a fun kite, but it could use some further refinement. It feels like Ozone is resting on its laurels when it comes to snowkiting, not that I can blame them as a lot of snow kiters are using inflatable kites and the number of snowkiters seems to be declining.

Given their experience with single skin gliders, I would assume that they could come up with something. Maybe it's a matter of scaling the technology and if sales would warrant it. Pretty shallow pool in snowkiters and even shallower if looking for really purpose built touring wings.
