Take mobile phone, load Oruxmaps (available at least to Android, hmm not anymore at google play but available directly from Oruxmaps site) and preload topomaps to offline mode. Then at site store important waypoints.
is there anything like this for iphone?

When i took the lead in lap one, gate 4 was not easy to find/see

Ragnarok was a blast! Beautiful day on the Hardangervidda plateau with winds clocked up to 44 knots. Being a part of 350 kiters screaming off the start line towards the goat rodeo known as Gate 1 was unlike any kiting moment I've ever had. That place is the perfect kiting playground on a scale that is hard to grasp. Even the magnitude of the course length and exertion need for the big upwind legs was massive. George and I gave it our all for the 5 hours allotted. I was pretty happy with 3.5 laps logged out of the total of 5 laps needed to finish(Only 8 badasses out of 350 racers did that, yikes!) I even chugged the obligatory Red Bull after race. The hosts working the race and at the Haugastol hotel were so nice, the food was plentiful and delicious, and partying with the local Norwegian kiters was a lot of fun. We also got in a handful of extra freeride days that whet my appetite to return for some cross country adventures.

Thanks guys for all the pre-race tips. I felt about a prepared as I could be. Gurke, I used a GAIA navigation app for my Android phone (probably available for iphone too but I don't have any mock black turtlenecks). It was very helpful to have plugged in the gate waypoints ahead of time as there were kiters heading every which way. And also big big thanks to my wife and kids who let me ditch for a week and go goof off!

Well that PDF is total mess to interpret anything. Could you upload your track to GPS Visualizer [http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/], you could color by speed and insert tickmarks by kilometer to follow your route? Store as JPEG or something and attach to KF as an image.

Matt, thanks for posting the recap. That sounds like an absolute blast.

Is 8 people out of 350 an abnormally low finish % due to wind conditions, or does it always take a herculian effort just to finish the 5 laps?
In any case, the trip looks epic. :thumb:

last 4 years only ~10 finished in time.

They do the course as big as possible for the windforecast and last 3 years was everytime not much wind. So mostly all pumped kites failed totally ;)

Hey Capt,
Yeah, it's a BIG course! I think The limited number of finishers is by design to make the event pan out as "hardcore". They cut us mortals off at 5 hours. I think with another 2 hours and a buncha redbulls I could have limped in with 5 laps. The top guys like Gurke were out there going SO FAST in all conditions to cover the required ground in 5 hours (or less). I wouldn't say that my tube kite totally failed, but looong straight skis and a race foil in an expert's hands is a different breed altogether, especially in that wild terrain. That said, I think that anyone can show up for this event, totally challenge themselves, and have a really great experience. I know I did-
