Has anyone spent much time trying to kite sand dunes - like those near Florence, OR; Dunes in Brazil; OBX, Egypt? Seems like it would be really similar to snow kiting but friction from the sand would be an issue for a board? Lots of gliding possibilities too it would seem. A couple of youtubes I've looked at haven't looked very appealing so thought I'd see if anyone has tried to dial it in?

Yep, I spent a week a year in the sand dunes of nz. The tool of choice Is the kite buggy. Its freaken fantastic. I've booked that event in with the missis until I die. Some of the most fun I have on a kite is ripping around the sand dunes.
30-40 knots in the kite buggy in the dunes is as mad or madder than triple head waves on the water!
Jumping a kite buggy and gliding down a slope like snow kiting is possible but freaken hard and dangerous. So most of the riding in the buggy is surface riding and jumping of sand lips at lower levels than snow kiting. If the sand dunes are hard enough then you can consider using a landboard with big wheels. That opens up more gliding possibilities.
PS don't write off the kite buggy as not looking that much fun and boring looking. Smashing dunes hard wired (kite harness directly to the buggy)into the buggy in dunes, steering with your feet, no brakes, with your arse 4" from the ground is freaken adrenaline charged madness. MADNESS!

Thanks for those! I'm sure the video doesn't do justice to the sensations you feel out there riding. The lip smackin off cant boosts etc look super fun & the area I'm thinking about is just 1 after the other wind lips & troughs. Love the powerslide 180's too.

Not everybody thinks that kitebuggy is less cool than stand up. I consider it somewhat the ultimate in skill and danger. It's only rival would be mountain board - and fked up my ankles twice doing that. So no more for me.
But I have never had the guts to try a buggy.
