RED BULL KITE FREEZE
February 22 - 24, 2002
Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota

On February 22 - 24, 2002 Lake Minnetonka, MN will play host to Red
Bull's first ever winter kiteboarding freestyle event. Red Bull Kite
Freeze will be a three-day competition played out in a terrain park
built on the snow-covered surface of frozen Lake Minnetonka.

Schedule*
Friday, February 22nd - Qualifying
Saturday, February 23rd - Qualifying & Elimination Heats
Sunday, February 24th - Elimination Heats & Finals

*Note: schedule is subject to change to take advantage of good
weather and/or to avoid bad. As with any wind-powered event we may
truncate the schedule in order to assure completion of the event.

Location
Lake Minnetonka is located approximately 13 miles outside of
Minneapolis. Access to the event site will be via the town of
Wayzata.

Registration & Information
Information on registration, as well as further event details, will
be posted to the event web site http://www.redbullkitefreeze.com when the
site goes live in the next two weeks. Definitely spread the word.

Contest Format
Red Bull Kite Freeze will be a judged freestyle event run within the
confines of a large terrain park, which we will build on the surface
of the frozen lake. A variety of hits and jumps will provide riders
with a multitude of launch opportunity.

We will hold qualification rounds Friday and Saturday morning where
riders will battle to make it into the elimination heats. Saturday
afternoon, we will run elimination heats. Sunday we will finish the
elimination heats and move on to the finals.

Conditions
Conditions can vary greatly and it is best to be prepared to deal
with the widest range of conditions possible. First and foremost,
all competitors need to be prepared to ride and operate outside and
in the cold. It's February, it's Minnesota and we're on a frozen
lake, what more can we say.

Surface conditions will depend on recent snowfall, but riders will
most likely encounter hard-pack snow with areas of wind-packed powder
and the occasional ice patch.

Equipment
Riders may compete on whatever equipment they like. While snowboards
provide the most analogous feel and performance to water-borne
kiteboarding, some riders prefer skis on the snow. Any kite will
work for winter kiting, though you may find you need a little less
kite to achieve the same sort of power in the lower friction
environment of snow and ice.
