Great review !! I never rode the 2017 Evo so have no basis for comparison but I will say that I love the 18 model. I owned the 2014 which I also loved (except the bar pressure) but did not really like the 2016 Evo (alot of high end but it felt like the low end was stripped out). The new Evo to me feels alot like the Rebel in some ways, just a bit more agile.

Overall I like the 2018

- much lighter weight and feel, does great in light winds
- faster/zippier
- still does a quick pivot turn if you set it up correctly, less sensitive to the kite setting (in terms of Soft vs Harder settings on kite for wingtip attachment point)

Main disadv of 2018 vs 2017 is for heavier riders in stronger winds. Better for lighter/normal weight riders across the board and better for true light wind/larger size kites.

Contrary to the vid, the 2017 really shone when put on Soft mode on the kite wingtip attachment setting. The difference of opinion is related to how people are using the kite. For wakestyle, the harder setting was ideal; for freeride the Soft setting was sweet. BEginners generally liked the Soft setting. I taught over 100 people how to get up and ride on the 2017 and experimented with the diff settings; Soft was the ideal. THe Soft setting allowed the 2017 to Pivot turn which reduced penalties when a beginner did something wrong. At a more advnbaced level, it made Kiteloops easy to teach for Intermediate students. It also made it great for learning new hooked in tricks that needed a kiteloop at the end - eg, a Darkslide. The extra struts really helped high weight riders (200 lbs+).

Agree 100% on 2016 EVO...Great kite, especially from mid to fully powered, but feels slow and sluggish at the low end
