Kiteboarding Wind Meters - Why Buy
One of the most useful tools for new kiteboarders would be the wind meter. If you're unsure what size kite to put up fear not, check the wind reading and pump up accordingly.

I own a wind meter but never use it unless sometimes when it is blowing like hell to measure the wind speed "for the record". Otherwise purely a gadget mostly used by newbies seen holding it as high as possible waiting for the wind to increase... Most riders can feel the wind strength and know what kite to rig accordingly.

I just lick my finger and hold it in the air.
You can calculate wind speed based on evaporation. Of course you need to consider relative humidity. I'm usually within a knot of the anemometer.
