What are you riding -> C or Flat ?

Postby Peter_Frank » Tue Jan 30, 2007 2:42 pm

It's been a while since the last Bow - C poll has been made.

I've noticed an extreme numbers of Bow kites (Flat inflatable kites) around in our vicinity the last two months.
Before that, it was still mostly C's around, so a sudden change happened, and now it is reversed quite a lot.

But after talking to others around the world, it seems that they have even higher percentages of Bow / Flat Inflatable kites around right now.

More than I expected !
Especially because there are so many who loves/uses the C kites, so I did not expect the balance to be as extreme.

So I think it is time to make a poll again, to see how the distribution will be here :thumb:

Note:
A Flat Inflatable and a C kite is distinguished by a C having a pronounced more closed arc shape.
So a 2007 North Rhino and Rebel are Flat kites, but the Vegas 2007 is a C kite.
And foils are the non-inflatables :P

If front connection point of kite is higher than back connection point that is no more a C-Kite. That is something like "Hybrid". Feels much less direct and much less power in loops.

peter, you should have added the "both" option, since i know a lot of people who have a 7m2 flat kite that supplements their quiver of larger C kites

Peter,

How do you vote? :o

I agree that there should be a mixed quiver option. I still have some Cs around... although I preffer SLEs....

Agree with above comments.

Need more choices if you want accurate results:
- All of the above
- A & B
- B & C
- A & C

I fly all three depending on conditions and location:
- Water (river, lake, ocean)
- Snow
- Sand (landboarding)
- Instructing/teaching

Tx, Dano

I think there is no doubt at all no more....
This thread and results shows it clearly, even after only one half day.

THERE IS NO C or BOW KITE BORDERS ANYMORE !

So many different designs and approaches - but they are all very much the same - huge depower, tight turning, more hangtime, stable in the air, and fast relaunch :thumb:

Whether it is bridled or not, pulleys or no pulleys - it is possible to obtain above characteristics with all designs.
Indirect or direct, loop power or smooth - can also be obtained with all designs now 8)
Details are personal options we are offered, and can choose.

So I'll say, that today there is NO REASON at all, to distinguish between what "type" of kite you have.
It has all merged down to the same thing, namely what we want the kite to deliver !

One thing is for sure - the "Classic" C kite is dead, no doubt !

New C kites, or New Bow kites - but they are the same today, merging to one, using each others advantages :D

Lets talk about specific characteristics we like, and specific kites - and forget all about the C <-> Bow bashing :thumb:

Nice to see that everything goes in the direction we all want - but we have to lose our old "prejudices" against the new or the old - things has changed and it is a new kiteworld we live in - AND A GREAT ONE :P
